Hiya everyone,
I’m due twins in a few weeks time and we still haven’t settled on any names! We don’t know the genders and so need girl and boy name suggestions, they are fraternal too so could be any ‘combination’! Please can we have some opinions on the following names and any other suggestions:
Girls:
Lucy
Beatrix
Charlotte (although I don’t like the nn’s)
Anna
Jemima
Juliet
Boys:
Luke
James
Joseph (although I don’t like Joe)
Thank you so much! xx

I would choose Beatrix & Charlotte, Beatrix & Luke, Luke & James from your names.
I prefer Joseph but if you don’t like Joe I’d avoid it. With Charlotte I think it’s easier to avoid a nickname for it.

Other suggestions - Clara, Ava, Rose, Etta, Penelope, Harriet, Emilia
Henry, Austin, Oliver, Louis, Zachary, Frederick, Miles

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 20/05/2025 06:54

Juliet and Beatrice

Jemima is a feminine of James though, so that’s certainly a twinny combo

The others are all nice but Anna, Charlotte and Luke are all very overused (or some version of them - Annie and Luca/Lucas - but it amounts to the same thing). Lucy and James also very popular. No point using Joseph if you don’t like Joe. Jemima is nice but a wee but twee.

Definitely don’t use the same initial if they’re the same sex - they really won’t thank you, but I wouldn’t do it at all.

James and Luke

StScholastica · 20/05/2025 00:03

Love all your choices except for Beatrix (like dominatrix), Beatrice is so much nicer. Also dislike Joseph as there are just too many of them

ilovepixie · 14/05/2025 08:13

Lucy Anna
The only boys name I like is James.

Needspaceforlego · 14/05/2025 07:37

I love Anna and slightly longer Hannah they were both on my very short girl list.
I also like Sarah

I also love James if you don't like Joe then ditch Joseph because it's not a good idea to have two Js which leaves you with James and Luke.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/05/2025 07:27

Anna and Luke

Daffodilsarefading · 14/05/2025 07:18

Anna and James.

pilates · 14/05/2025 06:00

I love all your names but Jemima and Joseph stand out to me.

BigHeadBertha · 14/05/2025 03:57

I'd go with the "J" names because you have two girl names and two boy names so they'll will work for any combination. I think it's cute when the names start with the same letter.

DrPrunesqualer · 14/05/2025 03:52

just Don’t go for names starting with the same Letter irrespective if they are different Sexes

Anna and Luke are my two favourite on the list

Anna means ‘ of grace’ so I would chose Grace if it was two girls

Luke means ‘ of light, light giving, patron saint of artists and doctors’. Which doesn’t help so much unless you have a favourite artist or scientist OP.

StarTwirl · 14/05/2025 03:39

I like all your name choices @Fairiesandgnomes

i suppose just wait till they’re born and certain names will just fit each baby better

Good luck with it all

I think Anna is gorgeous and Anna and Julia work really well together as a sibset- both feel quite timeless and very international (I really love romantic Juliet too but it’s much rarer than Julia or Anna and there’s the spelling issue of Juliette).

James and Julia/Juliet or James and Anna work great together (I don’t think you should worry about same initials for different sex siblings, I have the same initials as a brother and it’s never caused any issues as most post has Mr or Miss or uses middle names too).

For a boys pair, I like James and Luke best- again quite classic (but Joseph is a no go if you don’t like Joe). I assume you have considered names like Thomas, Alexander, William - all timeless, internationally well used boys names just like James and Joseph. Or maybe Max? For some reason I also really like the sound of Max with Anna, maybe as both are short and simple.

Hiya, thank you all so much for the suggestions, it’s given us lots to think about!
I’m really leaning towards Anna is one is a girl and this seems to be DH’s favourite too so think we are set in that one. I like how Lucy and Juliet sound with Anna and so maybe one of those if it turns out to be two girls?
Still can’t decide between the three boys names though!

I have a Charlotte no nicknames allowed, her choice, she did get called Charlie bear when very little though.

timoteigirl · 11/05/2025 07:40

Lucy - Emma or Sophia or Francesca or Frances
Beatrix - regal name like Cordelia or Mary
Charlotte - nn's unavoidable perhaps... Charlotta?
Anna - love it
Jemima - if you like Jemima then Elina
Juliet - considered other Shakespeare names?
Boys:
Luke - prefer Lucas
James
Joseph
other Biblical names to come to mind are Jacob Daniel Jonathan

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 11/05/2025 06:30

Avoid same initial and same sound - you WILL get them muddled up daily.

Dislike Beatrix with that spelling.

Namesy · 11/05/2025 06:12

Avoid giving them the same initial, especially Lucy and Luke which sound too similar. Also don’t go for Joseph if you don’t like Joe.

Anna and Lucy
James and Luke
Anna and James

Anna and Juliet
Anna and James
James and Luke

Other ideas:
Patrick

Elizabeth
Chloe

Sleepnplay · 10/05/2025 22:21

My picks from your list would be

2 Girls Beatrix and Juliet
2 Boys Luke and Joseph
1 Girl 1 Boy Beatrix and Luke

Emanwenym · 10/05/2025 19:25

Lucy - like
Beatrix - 'beer-tricks', prefer Beatrice
Charlotte (although I don’t like the nn’s) - No
Anna - like
Jemima - like
Juliet - I don't like it being said as Julie-ette, and I don't like Jules

Luke - Luca and Lucas too popular. I much prefer Luke
James - would use
Joseph (although I don’t like Joe) - No.

All the names are nice enough.
I'd avoid matching initials. Luke and Lucy, James and Jemima are too matchy.

My pick would be:
Lucy and Anna (Lucy being the first to be born)
James and Anna (If Anna born first)
Lucy and James (If James born first)
Luke and James (Luke being the first to be born)
