Sante for a boy?

Have four weeks to go and we have struggled with agreeing on a boys name for the last 30. Love the name Sante as a shortened version of Santiago. Thinking about just going for the shortened version as Santiago could be a bit of a mouthful and eyebrow raiser. But is Sante a real name, can't find it in any books?
Opinions welcome....

I love Santiago, and when it's shortened it also sounds lovely... in Spanish.

Not sure if it would work in English environment... sorry. Too much like Santa, or santé in French as mentioned above.

You would spend the whole of your son's childhood correcting people who can't pronounce it properly.

Santa?

will get a lot of raised eyebrows with that one I reckon. Although I know nothing - see my comment on the "Kendal for a girl" thread for my opinion

Is it a real name? IMO ...............no

It's the equivalent of 'cheers' in France so makes me think of clinking glasses.

I think you'll find Sante raises eyebrows as well! Are you Spanish or Latin American? If not, I wouldn't. I really think it's a mistake to use a name that's more likely than not to be mispronounced.

People weren't terribly kind when Posh and Becks called their boy Cruz - I think Sante might be in the same camp!
