Hi all I am due to have my baby at the end of September and we have found out we’re having another little girl! Our 18 month old is called Dottie and would love something to sort of match her name, I’m looking for something girly and delicate just like Dottie is, also not a name that’s too popular as when I was pregnant with Dottie everyone loved her name when I told it them as it’s not often heard of and it’s such a cute name🩷

I currently love -
Honey
Minnie
Daisy
Polly

but my partner isn’t keen on them

I like Polly the most of those options.

Other suggestions:

Eleanor
Emily
Mary
Holly
Hazel
Sadie
Laurie
Violet

I wouldn’t match the final sound of the names.
Jean
Vera
Etta
Nora
Rosa
Lola

I think Dottie with another -ie ending sounds a little bit twee/matchy. I do like Lainey as a name though and somehow even though the y ending sounds the same, it doesn't feel quite so twee as one written -ie.

A few random suggestions. Dottie has a slightly vintage feel so some of these are down that line...

Iris
Grace
Lara
Fern
Clover
Raya
Nina
Erin
Tess
Etta
Willa
Ruby
Libby
Rosa
Ivy
Maeve

Yes he really likes Lainey but I just don’t like the fact that it’s short for Elaine🙈

How about Lacey as an alternative?

My suggestions are either Etta, Pearl or Romy

Thankyou everyone there’s some gorgeous suggestions! Penny (Penelope), summer and dolly are my nieces so they’re out of the question, also Bella is my step daughter and Connie is my nannans name but it’s already been used as my nieces middle name.

I will read all the names out to my partner and see if we can shortlist any! Xx

Lainey doesn’t need to be short for Elaine, I’ve always thought of it as a name in its own right.

Polly is lovely.

I suggest Mabel. I do like Dottie and Mabel together.

Or maybe Betty? As an aside, I've named the two collared doves in my garden Dottie and Betty.

Bourbonbonbon · 29/04/2025 00:53

I wondered about Lottie or Poppy but they're too similar to Dottie.

It's a difficult brief. Dottie is a unique name.

The only thing that comes to mind as delicate and feminine is Gretel or Greta. They don't have that old lady vibe but I'm sure you've already considered Ivy, Mabel, Sally, Sylvia etc.

As a complete departure but keeping it feminine and to two syllables, I wondered about Stella.
