What do you think of the name India?

My dh and I have wildly differing opinions on how this name will be perceived by others. Could you tell me what you think of it?

I like it, I think it has "citizen of the world" connotations, so more hippy-ish I guess.

Absolutely agree indamb -- it is a fabulous name! Our DD is called India Clarabelle and she is a little stunner! We have a very common surname, so wanted something a little different without being too out there.

9 out of 10 people say how much they love her name, what a pretty name, etc. It's just the odd prat person who says "oh was that where she was conceived", "is that your favourite take away", "are you naming the next one, China?".

i love it- for obv dresons as my dd is called india- well india-rose to be precise but she is always just called india.

It's a fabulous name and also my dd 7, yes she is beautiful with dark hair and eyes.

I choose the name because i loved it and so does all our family. not boring name imo.

Round our way, the name India translates as 'my parents work in the media' (ditto for Verity). Whether that's good or bad is an open question.

I went to school with an India. She was impossibly pretty with auburn ringlets, very posh and very nasty.

btw, I was going to be given a Persian name by my parents but thankfully they chose a simple classic English one instead,their thinking that I might turn out to be plain and also I am fair haired and blue eyed.

I love it but it is spoiled a bit for me by the association with India Knight - who is an overweight (sadly relevant if you go around writing diet books) and gobby journalist on the Times.

Never known anyone with it as a name but did teach a lovely little arab girl named Hind (short i), which means India in arabic.

I dislike it. Plus if you went there on honeymoon/around the time of conception you would have to avoid it like the plague or give the poor child awful problems when she realised why she had that name.
