What do you think about Anna? It’s my favourite girls name but wanted views from others too.

Fabulous. Timeless, classic.

Vitrolinsanity · 27/04/2025 00:37

Fabulous

PluckyBamboo · 27/04/2025 00:34

I love Anna and Annabel (on MN and in RL).

CoalTit · 27/04/2025 00:33

I think it would be a great name to have; it's classic, pretty and practical, doesn't need much explaining or spelling out, and doesn't lead to assumptions or speculation about her parent's personality or background the way more fashionable, creative names do.

LilyJosephine · 27/04/2025 00:32

Better to have a name that’s bland/boring/unexciting than one which will show your age, social background or even nationality imo - there seems to be a lot of benefits to a classic, timeless name like Anna.

Anna would be near the top of my list if we didn’t already have one in the family (she is mixed nationality- Anna was chosen precisely because it works well in so many countries).

I’m not keen on more “stand out” names myself - just because the parent wants to be different doesn’t necessarily mean their child will feel the same way. I love a lot of quite unusual/uncommon names - but personally I think it’s fairer to give them to my pets than my DC. DC can always choose an unusual nickname instead of their name if they want to stand out, plenty of celebs do.

It isn’t. It’s popular, though not as much as Annie

Teacher 6 years; Social Worker for 3- can only think of three ‘Anne’s’ I’ve come across in all these years. ( the child not their mum that is)

Anne is lovely - and very unusual these days

It’s a bit like James - classic and really quite lovely.. but also a bit overdone right now so also somewhat dull.

FacingTheWall · 26/04/2025 23:27

I have an Anna, the only other child Anna we know is her best friends sister. It’s timeless, easy to spell, international, and no one has a strong opinion on it, so ticked lots of boxes for us.

Enko · 26/04/2025 23:21

If it's your favourite use it..
For me im of the dull and boring opinion

fourelementary · 26/04/2025 23:21

It was on our shortlist 15 years ago and then I was quite glad we hadn’t gone for it when frozen came out as I HATE how they said “Auhh-nah” weirdly…

But I do still love the name and it is a classic elegant name. Go for it!!!

wanttokickoffbutcant · 26/04/2025 23:18

I love it - love from an Anna

AliBaliBee1234 · 26/04/2025 22:48

Not a fan sorry 😔 but if you like it, thats's all that matters

XelaM · 26/04/2025 22:37

It's my name and I really like it. It's international and easy to spell. Go for it OP!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 26/04/2025 22:34

I love it. I would also give her a frilly and unusual middle name to shut up anyone who says it’s dull. Marine, Cecily, Stephanie, Juliet . . .

TheGrimSmile · 26/04/2025 21:03

Beautiful

Lardychops · 26/04/2025 21:00

Movile · 26/04/2025 20:58

Genuine thank you to everyone. You’ve reassured me. I really hardly ever hear of any babies called Anna so thank you that I should trust my gut!

I think Anna is a really pretty name. A proper timeless classic. I love Annabel/Annabelle too, so would be tempted to use it as a longer name, with Anna as a nickname. But Anna is perfect on its own too!

I love Annabelle and Annabella too but very very close to my nieces name!

I like it. I also like Ann/Anne and Annie. I love classic, recognisable names which aren't very commonly used for children these days.

I am v confused what’s happening with deleted comments?!

I love Anna. Have known lovely ones and less lovely ones, but the name is classic. If you wanted something similar but slightly less common, how about Amanda?
