Opinions on Margot?

Margot Alysia Y_ as a full name.

Alysia is a modern take on my mother’s name, and Margaret is DH late GMs names - hence, Margot.

I can’t understand why it’s suddenly so popular. If you’d said that 20 years ago people wouldn’t have believed you. I also think of the Good Life when I hear it. I don’t like it.

It’s really popular right now, but I named one of my children a name that became really popular very quickly after they were born without realising that would happen! There are many of them a little younger than him. It doesn’t seem to bother him.

I like the spelling Margo better because my brain sees “maggot” when I see it written with a “t”.

I really love the name though.

That chavvy TOWIE woman named her daughter Margot. I can’t think of her name. That would put me off.

It also reminds of this story - According to a Hollywood legend there was a pointed verbal encounter between the movie siren Jean Harlow and the sharp-tongued English aristocrat Margot Asquith. When Harlow attended a party given by Asquith, the movie star presumptuously referred to the hostess by her first name, and she repeatedly mispronounced it as “Margott”, i.e., she pronounced a “t” at the end of the name. Eventually, Asquith responded with a squelcher:
No, no, Jean. The ‘t’ is silent, as in Harlow.

And then there's - Margot Robbie reveals the surprising reason her school friends call her 'Maggot': 'That has been my nickname since I was six years old!'

I realise its similar to a family name, but personally, I don't like it. What was DH's GM's middle name?

I prefer Margaret to Margot. The other forms like Rita, Greta, Maggie, Daisy are also nicer.

How do you say Alysia? Alison or Alice are prettier.

Margot is OK but it's a bit trendy.
