Opinions on Margot?

Margot Alysia Y_ as a full name.

Alysia is a modern take on my mother’s name, and Margaret is DH late GMs names - hence, Margot.

Lovely name but would never use it now as it's in the top 50 names - Margaret is a nice name and Maggie is cute

I would much prefer a more traditional spelling of Alicia. I have a slight preference for Margaret over Margot, as Baital says there are more options, but both are lovely.

Margot is lovely.
I don’t like Alysia at all. I like Alice or Alicia (or even Alyssa, which is what my spell-check suggested instead of your spelling) but if you call the poor child Alysia no-one will know how to spell it or, if they read it, how to pronounce it. Aleesha? Aleezier?

I like it, but would probably go for Margaret on the birth cert and then Margot as the family nickname. That gives her lots of options in future for other nicknames if she doesn't like Margot, without having to change anything officially.

@Cheepcheepcheep , name popularity tends to be regional. You only need to look at the 'stole my name' threads to see that if you mention your future baby's name, someone will suddenly feel the need to use it for their child.

A friend gave her baby the same name as one of her friends' baby, but the name was only used for about 240 babies that year.

I must live in a bubble! I know one Margot age 10 and another age 11. That said there were 24 of my DD’s name in the year she was born and I’ve already met one from the year before which had 36 of that name…

I don’t think it’s a flash in the pan or especially dated, I know preteen Margots.

I love the combination but just so you know you’ll never get a consensus on these boards - I have two children with ‘marmite’ names according to Mumsnet, I asked for votes on both and got a 50/50 love it v ‘ugh’ response :)

Maggot, also sounds harsh , think it’s an ugly sounding name , I’m not keen on hard G sounds and cannot understand how it’s so popular. Hideous. Saying that it’s not my kid - and you probably wouldn’t like my names so fill your boots!

I love Margot, but Margaret is hideous IMO, I'm amazed some people prefer it as to me it's a name for a cow on a farm. I think it's really dated and just reminds of the bloke on Little Britain who is always shouting it to his wife upstairs.
