I like:

Nicole - aka Coco for a girl

or

Reuben for a boy

any reason I should avoid theese? My DH is not conivinced on Reuben. So told him the Mumsnet ladies would give us an honest opinion!

Like Reuben and Coco, but Nicole is a bit dull imo.

ElizabethBeresfordSW19 · 16/05/2008 18:16

Gigi is sweet. But that is a bit pole dancer. I still like it though.

Sorry to have offended any mothers of Gigis

ElizabethBeresfordSW19 · 16/05/2008 18:14

Reuben was on my list when I was pregnant in 2002, so it's 'out there' already. Not self-consciously different (or twatty at all imo)

Do you like Didi? that could also be short for Cordelia and is a little less deliberately cool than Coco. I am a FAN of coco though. I like it.

I also love Bibi but I think it's too close to baby. Lulu is too cutesy.

jk1 · 16/05/2008 18:11

Honesty fine - you can't ask for opinions here and not take the onslaught of 100's of probably hormonal women!

I don't think Nicole is page 3, but I think it's dated. But then, Melanie is dated and I think that's a lovely name. So dated just means knowing what you like despite the trends perhaps? Although Coco is very urban chic, but I like it.

lljkk · 16/05/2008 18:09

Coco sounds like a porn star, Reuben sounds like a twat (u did want honest opinions, right!?)

Nicole is very pretty, though.

ChicaLovesHerLocalGreengrocer · 16/05/2008 18:02

Not keen on Reuben, although I know it's making a come back now.

Nicole is nice, I also like Nicola.

ElizabethBeresfordSW19 · 16/05/2008 17:59

I love Coco but not Nicole. I love Cordelia/Coco.

Reuben is a good name, really like that one..

Tatterdemalion · 16/05/2008 17:57

Coco was that limber stripper in Fame. Please don't call her that. Nicole is OK.

Reuben is OK.

ShowOfHands · 16/05/2008 17:54

I know several baby Reubens. It's definitely becoming popular. I don't like Nicole at all, my first thought was 'page 3'. I like Coco though.

smartiejake · 16/05/2008 17:51

Don't particularly like Nicole but Nicolette is lovely.

Reuben would not be my choice of name

catok · 16/05/2008 17:48

Do you say 'Neecol' (french way) or Ni-coal?
Cornsilk: or do you say "Cocoa - drink time"?!!
Reuben is different - probably won't be another in school...I think a boy or man could live with that..

AbbeyA · 16/05/2008 17:47

Nicole is getting very popular as a name. Coco would get coco the clown or coconut.
Not keen on Reuben (I suppose he could shorten to Ben).
Sorry-you did say to be honest.

jk1 · 16/05/2008 17:43

I can deal with being pretentious! ASlso so many dogs called Alfie and doesn't seem to bother the 100's calling their kids it!

Page 3 a bit worrying though anyone else think Nicole is Page 3???

I am a bit worried Reuben on the rise but think you need to be careful with boys and can't be too odd!

I love Reuben but too similar to DH's name to make our shortlist

Nicole is ok, Coco a bit interesting but would be known as coconut

Rocky12 · 16/05/2008 17:38

Love Nicola, very french and elegant.

Coco is the name of SIL's dog

Reuben is OK but would your son really thank you for a name like that.

cornsilk · 16/05/2008 17:36

'Coco, come in for your tea NOW!'
Could you really imagine yourself shouting that down the street in a few years time?

LemonTart · 16/05/2008 17:34

I like both too. Bit different without being too different.
Personally I quite like Coco too. I have this vision of a sweet little toddler with big brown eyes and gorgeous dark brown ringlets tottering around in her mums shoes.. (although saying that... we did live next to a large fat pampered persian pedigree cat that was called Coco! )

scanner · 16/05/2008 17:32

Reuben is fab, Nicole is ok, Coco - fine, that's the thing with shortening/nicknames you can be slightly outrageous.

Lizzzombie · 16/05/2008 17:31

I know 2 baby Reubens. I reckon its making a come back - you are "on trend" !!

PosieParker · 16/05/2008 17:30

I love the name Coco and Reuben.

RainyWednesday · 16/05/2008 17:28

Quite like them both.

Not sure about Coco - think it might be borderline pretentious.

luckylady74 · 16/05/2008 17:27

Lovely names - I was just watching TOPT2 and an odd 70s band were singing a song about a Coco and I was thinking what a lovely name it is.
Surely Chanel outweighs the clown connatation? But I named my dd after a showgirl/transvestite so I don't hold much with connotations!
Reuben is fab - are there biblical meanings with that name?

I love them all particularly Coco. It's not as whacky as all that. Some of you women are so straight it makes me larf. There are two Coco's in my ds's year alone.
