Tilly. Yah or nay?

My SIL suggested Tilly for my DD (due in June) but I'm not so keen. I think it's ok as a nickname for Matilda but as a stand alone name in it's own right I find it a bit wishy washy. Like not much ooomph to it! Doesn't sound like the sort of name that would suit a grown woman. More like a name for a pet or nn for a young baby. SIL doesn't see my point and keeps trying to push OH for Tilly. What do other think?

No. Natalie with Tilly as a nickname if you must, although I much prefer Nat or Natty!

wizzywig · 17/04/2025 12:59

Nah. It's insipid

It's very twee imo so a nay from me

GoldenRosebee · 17/04/2025 12:57

I prefer Matilda, but I actually like Matilda. Why does she keep pushing?

SlagPit · 17/04/2025 12:54

Massive no. Such a wet and insubstantial name.

Why does SIL think she can name your child ? surely the child's father has his own ideas ?

FeelingLessTired · 17/04/2025 12:46

You don't like it, so that's the end of the matter I think.

Why does your SIL 'keep pushing'. Strange.

What DO you like? There are such lovely names out there for girls. I had 2 boys and found it really hard to find names I loved. I had loads of girls names on the list though!
