I like Leo and know ones of different ages.
I don't like Theo and only know one older one who is 'Tay-o' because of heritage, which is fine.
It's the TH I don't like.

LilyJosephine · 16/04/2025 19:40

Yes, Leo might be a great “split the difference” name. Okay, it’s popular but not quite as trendy as Theo (once you add in all the Theodore’s too, its rise has been astonishing- definitely the name of the 2010’s/20’s for boys). But Leo or Theo still has a nicer sound than Louis imo.

I agree with a pp though, please don’t spell it Louie - one is the spelling of multiple Kings (and a classic), the other is a famous cartoon Duck.

Emanwenym · 16/04/2025 16:56

Louis is nice. I dislike Theo and it's too popular. Louie looks like you can't spell.
Leo might be a good compromise.

LilyJosephine · 16/04/2025 15:29

I suspect most of here will say Louis as Theo is so trendy. But while I don’t mind Lewis, I’ve secretly always thought Louis/Louie has a very whiny sound, so of the two it would be Theo for me.

Heavenlyhoumous · 16/04/2025 15:09

Louis

midlifeattheoasis · 16/04/2025 14:53

Louis. I have a Louis!

Lionsmaine · 16/04/2025 14:26

I love Louis. Theo is a nice name too but very popular around here.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/04/2025 13:39

I love both but would choose Louis as there are a zillion Theos round us.

queenofthebongo · 16/04/2025 13:38

Leo, then it’s the best of both worlds!

Theo..
Never can tell which way to say the other one.

Ds has Lewis as his mn. No mistakes then..

In England Louis is pronounced lewee like Prince Louis.

Sorry meant to quote the probable use of Louie spelling

Reddelilah · 16/04/2025 13:21

I think that spelling has become the more popular one in the UK?

Louis is often mispronounced as Lou-is

Amum25 · 16/04/2025 12:34

Theo

BoleynMemories13 · 16/04/2025 12:28

Nugget15 · 16/04/2025 11:59

It will be pronounced Lou-ee.
we may use the spelling Louie if we end up going for that

No don't do that, it really cheapens a lovely name.

Surely most people know Lou-ee is the correct pronunciation of this French name, since Prince Louis was named? Anyone who does call him Lew-is (which is a nice name in it's own right, but the wrong pronunciation for this name) should only need correcting once.

Coffeeforayear · 16/04/2025 12:12

I think Theo could be v popular at the moment.

I’d spell it properly.

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 16/04/2025 12:11

Louis

Pemba · 16/04/2025 12:08

The spelling Louis is a lot more classic, like the little prince (not that I'm a royalist). The spelling Louie always reminds me of one of Scrooge McDuck's nephews, was it Huey, Dewey and Louie? Seems a little childish, but maybe that's just me.

Theo. I really don’t like Louis.

BoleynMemories13 · 16/04/2025 11:43

Both are nice. I slightly prefer Louis as I dislike when Theo becomes Feo in some accents.

TallulahBetty · 16/04/2025 11:40

Is it Lewis or Looee?

CheeseAndHamToastieAndCrisps · 16/04/2025 11:33

Theo! I don’t like Louis at all. Both are popular.
