We've decided to continue with the unintentional botanical theme and have narrowed it down to five names - would appreciate any comments as we can't decide :)

Hazel
Willow
Violet
Iris
Jasmine

Iris

Of the 5 , I think Jasmine goes best with her siblings names (although you have to be able to tolerate “Jas”, as I don’t know any who don’t get it shortened by their friends). Like Rowan and Lily it’s 2 syllable with an easy shortening (Ro, Lil and Jas) and a tree, flower and bush/plant respectively.

Willow would be my 2nd choice and is actually my fave as a stand-alone name - but some feel that you need to be “willowy” ie. slim and graceful to suit it.

Hazel is too retro sounding for me, as is Violet, though I know that’s now popular again and Iris is borderline (and would be my 3rd choice).

I love Hazel and Iris. Couldn’t use Hazel as I worked with an awful one but I wished I could, and my daughter’s middle name is Iris. Great taste!

Hazel or Iris would work so well with Rowan and Lily. I do love Jasmine and Violet too, but don’t think they work quite as well x

I love Hazel

fiveIsNewOne · 15/04/2025 23:34

Hazel is the best.

Willow sounds too similar to Lily.
Hazel is in theme, but not overly so

HeySnoodie · 15/04/2025 23:28

Iris

shoopshoopdedoo · 15/04/2025 23:26

Iris is my favourite, followed by Hazel

mathanxiety · 15/04/2025 20:43

You could go with a less obvious floral name - Cicely.

BoleynMemories13 · 15/04/2025 18:43

I love Hazel and Iris. Both would go well.

Jasmine is ok, but a little dated.

I'm not too keen on Violet. Predictive text often suggests violent or violence when you start typing it, and autocorrect sometimes changes it to this. That would definitely put me off.

I don't understand the popularity of Willow. It sounds such a weak, whiny name, to me. Plus I wouldn't use it with Lily, as it repeats the 'il' sound.

Iris would be my top choice, but Hazel is equally gorgeous.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2025 04:39

Hazel or iris

TomatoSandwiches · 14/04/2025 22:11

Hazel is my favourite of yours but when I read your names I thought of Marigold.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 14/04/2025 22:07

I think Hazel goes best with your other two

Mumofgirls2017 · 14/04/2025 22:02

Iris, willow or hazel

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/04/2025 21:38

Iris, Violet or Hazel are my favourites with Rowan and Lily. Willow sounds a little similar to Lily to me. Jasmine has a harsher sound (to me). I would pick Iris 😊

itsgettingweird · 14/04/2025 21:31
