Tybalt?

Hi,
I was thinking Tybalt as the name for the baby boy I’m expecting. I think it’s a lovely name but I’m slightly worried about the Romeo/Juliet implications as well.
For the middle name we were considering Ripley, so the name would be Tybalt Ripley, as again think the name is lovely.
Could we possibly get away with naming our son this without people thinking he’s the Romeo + Juliet character!!!

I really like it but I don’t like Rpley unless you’re a massive fan of Sigourney Weaver in the Alien movies, in which case, great and use that too.

Tybalt Ripley is 50% a fantastic and amazing name but also 50% slightly crazy.
I kinda like it 😳

I agree in that I can see the appeal but I personally think it's just a bit too crazy and out there. Could be hard to live with.

I would avoid Tybalt as everyone will 100% think R&J. Thibault however is normal name in France without the connotations. But unless you have a French connection might be hard to pull off and the pronunciation is different (nicer imo).

Aside from the connection to Romeo and Juliet it conjures it sounds rather brutish.

What if he grows up and is more Mr Bean than Jason Statham?

God I hope this is a delayed April fool. Ripley…have you got this name from the fictional conman/murderer? And of course everyone’s going to associate Tybalt with Shakespeare, it’s pretty much a standard text studied early in secondary school. How about Othello, at least they don’t do that til sixth form?

Tybalt isn't the most positive of characters to be named after but to be honest I've heard worse. Most of the rough kids at school won't make the connection. As for Ripley as a middle name- well, I guess he might be talented if nominative determinism is real, though personally I'm not sure if I believe it or not.

No and Romeo and Juliet is still very popular both as a play and as movies (and offshoots of it Gnomeo and Juliet which doesn’t actually show him as a great character)

by all means use the name but you won’t escape it

It sounds really mean and thuggish, probably because of the R&J connection.

But I suppose Tibby would be a sweet nickname 😆
