Is this TOO old-fashioned?

Is the name 'Christopher' a bit too old-fashioned and Boomer-ish? Generally I like 'classic' names but I guess that some can be a bit much...

Yep, there was at least six in my year at secondary school in the early 00s. My year 1 has a Christopher in his class too so I don’t think it’s gone completely out of fashion!

It’s a classic. It’s just not a completely timeless one, but then few names technically are if you are in England (you are basically limited to William, Thomas, Edward, James, Michael, Alexander, George, Daniel, Joseph and David which all never go out of the Top 100 afaik).

But nor do I find Christopher especially dated - it’s like other Biblical names like Matthew, John etc in that it rises and falls in popularity but there’s always a few about of different ages. Christopher also has the benefit of trendy nn Kit rather than Chris, which has made the name seem cooler again.

My cousin is Christopher, he’s 66 so officially a boomer. He was named after his auntie Christine who was a ‘proper’ 1946 boomer. I think it’s timeless. It was quite popular in the 1980s I believe.

I love the name Christine as well. Surely due a revival!

It’s a solid name.

My dad is a Christopher (only by his mother, he’s a Chris in any other circle) and he did begrudge writing his name as a young child, he used to wish he was a Ben or Lee!

I say 55 - 65 as a general term for both of them as I do not want to be rude and guess their ages.

Either way, late end of gen X if not a boomer and still fits the point of what the OP is asking.

You could have the nickname Kit which would give it a more modern vibe

If you can read you will see I already previously started this is my experience!

I know 3, one is 35 and a chain smoker with an ex wife.

The other two are 55 - 66 and fit the description given.

Everyone has different experiences and that is why things such as forums exist - to get different people’s, different perspectives.

Timeless IMO. If I'd had another DS he would have been Christopher, nn Kit.

I may also have a weakness for Kit Connor who is only 21

I know a toddler Christopher. Given all the “all the Christopher’s I know are 20’s, 35+, 17 etc.” on this thread I think you can be certain it is timeless.

I like it but as a Gen X’er, nearly all my DC’s friends’ dads are either Chris, Steve or Matt, in the same way that nearly all my friend’s dad were called John, so I wonder if it’s yet ready for its revival as he will almost certainly be Chris unless you actively enforce Kit ( and please not Topher).
