Hello! Would really appreciate some help as we have a three week old baby. Her first name is Clara but we are really stuck on middle names so would be grateful for some help! Her registration appointment is early next week so we haven’t got long!
I like:
Clara Lucy
Clara Ruby
Clara Alice
Clara Madeleine

DH likes:
Clara Louise
Clara Amelia
Clara Jane

Any preferences and other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

surname is one syllable and begins with an N if that helps.

I have a name similar to Clara and I’m a Madeline. And love it.

Voldemortifying · 18/03/2025 23:52

Clara Louise.

TheBirdintheCave · 18/03/2025 23:51

You could always have more than one middle name :) My daughter has two. That way you could include a family name as well without it sounding too much of a run on from Clara.

Clara Madeleine Ruby N. is nice :)

Congrats on the little one by the way!

Glamisastateofmind · 18/03/2025 22:05

Hello! Thanks so much for all the comments and suggestions!

I have been reading through and taking them on board. Alice and Ruby are the only two family names but I agree with several of the posters that they don’t flow as well as some of the other options.

I’m currently leaning towards Clara Madeleine (which is also a close friends name which is nice!) and I was glad to see that lots of posters seemed to agree that this is a good pick!

I like:
Clara Madeleine
Clara Lucy
Clara Louise
Clara Jane

I don't think the other choices flow well.

Other ideas:
Clara Naomi
Clara Jasmine
Clara Josephine
Clara Jessica
Clara Leonie
Clara Marie
Clara Tamsin
Clara Genevieve
Clara Phoebe

YourAmberFawn · 18/03/2025 18:13

Clara Amelie

RedOnyx · 18/03/2025 17:58

Clara Jade? Similar sound to Jane and a gem stone like Ruby.

I don't think an A name flows very well. Same with Clara Ruby - it's a bit tongue twistery.

Clara Lianne
Clara Josephine
Clara Naomi

MotherJessAndKittens · 18/03/2025 16:10

I wouldn’t use one beginning with a vowel. Like Clara Lucy, Clara Madeleine, Clara Rose.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 18/03/2025 16:04

Clara Jane is lovely. She could have the nn CJ 😊

mathanxiety · 18/03/2025 16:02

I like
Clara Lucy
Clara Madeleine
And maybe Clara Louise
I think either Clara Lucy or Clara Madeleine would be lovely.

Clara Ruby has Rs running into each other.
Clara Alice has two As clashing.
Same with Clara Amelia.

Clara Jane is too plain and very 60s - I know several Emma Janes, Sarah Janes, and Elizabeth Janes from that era and the 70s.
The reservation I have about Clara Louise is thst Louise was a filler name of the 60s, 79s, and 80s (see also Jane, Anne).

Suggestions:
Clara Mabel
Clara Sophia
Clara Leonore
Clara Violet
Clara Juliet
Clara Celeste
Clara Gabrielle
Clara Jasmine
Clara Marguerite
Clara Felicity
Clara Penelope
Clara Frances / Francesca

Clara Lucy - too many Ls
Clara Ruby - too many Rs
Clara Alice - nice
Clara Madeleine- nice

Clara Louise - don’t like Louise, too many Ls
Clara Amelia - doesn’t flow
Clara Jane - nice, and Jane is actually what I thought when I read your title

My first thought was Clara Elise.

From your lists I like …

Clara Madeleine and Clara Jane.

Suggestions …

Clara Charlotte
Clara Elisabeth
Clara Genevieve
Clara Celeste
Clara Meredith
Clara Estelle
Clara Bethany
Clara Josephine
Clara Frances
Clara Juliet
Clara Penelope

I prefer something with 3 syllables and not starting with a vowel.

FearNotSheHathRisen · 18/03/2025 12:48

Clara is such a beautiful name, OP.

How about
Clara Violet
Clara Eve
Clara Joy
Clara June

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/03/2025 12:43

Lovely name ideas! I would pick Clara Lucy or Clara Madeleine. Middle names starting with A don’t flow as well with Clara to me - they become Clara-Ralice, Clara-Ramelia. Clara Ruby is a bit tricky to say with the “r”s close together!

Clara Matilda
Clara Heidi
Clara Phoebe
Clara Mabel
Clara Sophia
Clara Beatrice
Clara Zoe
Clara Maisie
Clara Willow
Clara Daisy
Clara Poppy
Clara Francesca

sel2223 · 18/03/2025 12:40

I wouldn't go for longer than a 2 syllable middle name

I'd rule out 'ruby' as it doesn't flow with the 'ra' ending to Clara (ara-ru becomes a bit of a tongue twister).
Also would rule out Amelia for the double 'a'

mummysmagicmedicine · 18/03/2025 12:06

Awww congratulations on your sweet baby girl!
here are my opinions:
Clara Lucy- bit of a mouthful
Clara Ruby- bit of a mouthful
Clara Alice- pretty
Clara Madeleine- my favourite!
DH likes:
Clara Louise- I do like
Clara Amelia- bit of a mouthful
Clara Jane- bit dull

any family members/friends you could use as a middle name in honour? Any runner up names you could use? Or your name? Favourite flower? Destination that means a lot to you and DP?

some more suggestions if you need:
Clara Willow
Clara Daisy
Clara Matilda
Clara May
Clara Kate
Clara Meadow
Clara Fern
Clara Jess
Clara Marigold
Clara Maisie
Clara June
Clara Mabel
Clara Wren
Clara Ophelia
Clara Olivia
Clara Sophia
Clara Florence
Clara Niamh
Clara Hazel
Clara Zoe

PurBal · 18/03/2025 11:38

May or Florence

Emanwenym · 18/03/2025 11:33

Clara Lucy - good
Clara Ruby - too many Rs
Clara Alice - Claruh Ralice
Clara Madeleine - good

Clara Louise - filler middle name from the1980s
Clara Amelia - -a-A- doesn't flow
Clara Jane - filler middle name from the 20th century

Not Rose, May, Grace, Anne or any other single-syllable filler.

Middle names are seldom used, so a family name might be a good fit.

caringcarer · 18/03/2025 11:32

Clara Louise

Mumofgirls2017 · 18/03/2025 11:30

Clara Lucy or Clara Madeleine flow best.

Clara juliet
clara beatrix
clara sophie
clara joy
clara lily
clara daisy
clara maeve
clara pearl
clara vivienne
clara penelope
clara eloise
clara daphne

Fradishes · 18/03/2025 11:08
