Thoughts on the name Boden (nick names Bode or Bodie)

And middle names (we like more classical middle names) or ideally a fire and earth name

2 middle names needed!

Given the brand name, I think it is unwise.

OonaStubbs · 15/02/2025 20:59

Would you call your daughter Dorothy Perkins?

Horses7 · 15/02/2025 20:57

Say both names together and you’ll start sounding like brian badonde.

Ooooo actually - Badonde?

I don’t understand why it matters it’s a clothes shop, it’s not a horrible association is it?

I personally think with some of the names I’ve heard in the past 5 years, Boden is quite nice and definitely won’t get bullied like some posters are suggesting.

I would probably go with quite a common middle name, such as Boden James or Boden Oliver

Edited

Boden Oliver sounds like the unfortunate love child of Johnnie and Jamie...

IHateBakedBeans · 15/02/2025 20:46

Boden Whistles.

Perfect.

But Zara?

Show quote history

That is different. Zara was an established and popular first name before it was a clothes shop. There aren't many Bodens walking about in the UK and there probably weren't whenever the shop was established.

TaggieO · 15/02/2025 20:41

Ooh what about Mark Spencer…./?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 15/02/2025 20:41

I like James

Swoop21 · 15/02/2025 20:41

I think Boden is a really cute name.

The name "Boden" has various meanings and origins, including "sheltered" (Scandinavian), "floor" (German), and potentially "messenger" or "hill shaped like a bow". It's also a surname with roots in different regions.

Decke and Mauer for middle names (Ceiling and Wall).

Topsyturvy78 · 15/02/2025 20:36

Sorry it's awful you might as well name them Asda.🙄

ArtyFartyHippopotamus · 15/02/2025 20:34

I think that did come from olden times though. If you think about it surnames had to come from somewhere. Nurse is a surname, though I haven't seen Doctor as one. I came across a Mr Snowball once, god knows how that name came about 😁

Carrier?

For the German speakers among us, may I suggest Ständig?

(Not that this mother's going to go for that..)

PS that was a German joke. They can happen occasionally. 😉😂

SlightlyJaded · 15/02/2025 20:26

Not remotely like Zara which is a long established name

Boden is equivalent to Bershka

Hi! Yes I'm aware of the shop name. Thanks for your input :) I find that quite rude.

Show quote history

You think that's rude, can you imagine what darling Boden will go through at school should the clothing retailer still be in business?

SnoopysHoose · 15/02/2025 20:24

@armt
But Zara?
Zara is a pretty well used name, Boden isn't and it's best known as a clothing brand.

Surnames that are occupations are particularly weird - Carter, Archer, Fletcher, Hawker, Sawyer etc. Why not call your baby Doctor, Ironmonger, Cordwainer or Stevedore? 😃
