Thoughts on the name Boden (nick names Bode or Bodie)

And middle names (we like more classical middle names) or ideally a fire and earth name

2 middle names needed!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You do know that Ryan and Mercedes are actually names? And IMO kids shouldn’t be called Cooper - it’s a surname.

Or someone who makes barrels.

wombpaloumbpa · 15/02/2025 22:41

Where I live we don't have a Boden and no one is middle class to shop there anyway. I think it's objectively a cute name and I like the shortened Bo or Bodie.

Boden James Lawrence
Boden Alexander William
Boden Arthur Oliver

🤷‍♀️

Wow everyone is being so rude.

To be fair, I think it's a joke, no one's going to call their child after a clothing company!

It’s not the worst name I’ve heard, but it’s definitely an eye-roller. I’m not even sure what type of name it is, is it a surname, or after the brand (ie Armani or Chanel) or an invented name because you like the hard ‘d’ sound in the middle? I wouldn’t even know what to suggest as an alternative it’s so out-there.

What’s a “fire and hearth” name?

Dunno, but every other name seems to be Sonny and Teddy, so I'm guessing one of those.

I think everyone should stop being so mean.

If a baby can be called Ryan or Cooper, or Mercedes they can be called Boden.

It's a case of 'cruel to be kind'.....hopefully the thread will save the poor child from the humiliation of being named after a clothing brand which receives plenty of ridicule.

Barold and Nedmund.

Pipsquiggle · 15/02/2025 21:58

A hard no on Boden. For the same reason as everyone else has said for 11 pages

I get that OP thinks people are being rude, but this is what her child will likely face with that name in the UK.

Bodhi/Bodie/Body would probably be the better way to go tbh

This. Poor kid!

GoodVibesHere · 15/02/2025 21:52

Boden Fatface

Hi! Yes I'm aware of the shop name. Thanks for your input :) I find that quite rude.

Why do you find it rude that people are advising you not to name your child after a clothes shop?

I agree - terrible idea for a name.

Boden Oliver sounds like the unfortunate love child of Johnnie and Jamie...

Boden Oliver Bonas perhaps?

I think that did come from olden times though. If you think about it surnames had to come from somewhere. Nurse is a surname, though I haven't seen Doctor as one. I came across a Mr Snowball once, god knows how that name came about 😁

I vaguely knew a very junior army officer who was always addressed as "Snowball". When I asked why they called him that, it was "Because that's his name". It was his surname.

Notsuchafattynow · 15/02/2025 21:31

Might as well just call him, 'Boden, yes, like the shop, Smith' as that that's how the poor bugger is going to spend his entire life.

Was he a Persian cat?

No a man of about 50 😁 but a great name for a cat.

Seagullproofoldbag · 15/02/2025 21:17

Is Bodie/Bodhi a people name? If you shout that where I live , you'll get at least 2 dogs come running.

SP2024 · 15/02/2025 21:10

Hard no from me. But also….how are some people thinking it’s for a girl? Surely it’s a boys name if anything? The suggestion of Sale is hilarious. Sorry OP, I’d be rethinking this one

eightIsNewNine · 15/02/2025 21:09

Every name is spoiled by something, and shops are coming and going.
From my experience children are absolutely ok with many different names, it is always adults who voice opinions, just because they don't know something.

Do you have Scandinavian surname? If not, and you like the name in connection with it's Scandinavian roots, maybe choosing a middle name which would point to the north might make it clearer.

Middle name Lars? Can be used as Larry if the son feels more British.

You said you need two middle name - does the reason why you need two put some constrains/conditions on choosing them?

OonaStubbs · 15/02/2025 20:59

Would you call your daughter Dorothy Perkins?

I know someone called John Lewis (there's probably loads of them to be fair) but he's very old and almost certainly pre-dates the retail chain of the same name.
