I have shortlisted the following and would like thoughts please;

Asher - DH thinks it sounds girly but I like that is classic (biblical)

Aston - reminds me of Aston in Birmingham one of the roughest towns! Don’t know if this is silly?

Ashton - both quite like but is it a bit of a mouthful?

For girls;

Sienna- lovely name just worry it’s a bit popular and overused

Dhillon - we both love but worry she’d resent us if constantly mistaken for a boy?!

We also don’t want a chav name!! I don’t think any of these are chavvy but if they are please be honest?!!

Thanks all! I think I’ll ditch Dhillon

I should add I don’t want something that will date ideally

Sorry OP - these are really not good names. Sienna is the best of a bad bunch but like you say becoming a bit popular. Does your husband have any suggestions which we could comment on?

I like Asher or Ashton as they shorten to Ash, which is a great nn.

Sienna is lovely and not overused round us.

Being brutally honest OP, I think they are all what some people would regard as c**v names (your word not mine).

Sienna wasn’t, but has rather gone that way, I know Asher is biblical but it’s had no great traditional of use in the UK and seems to have sprung up recently along with names like Jenson. Dhillon is really bizarre.

Asher - I know of someone who named their son Asher Price and he was teased and called Asda Price! I don't like the name. Ashley is better but only very slightly.

Aston - sounds like a backing dancer for a boy band.

Ashton - don't like it.

Sienna- it's ok.

Dhillon - absolutely dreadful.

Asher and Sienna.

Barleysugar86 · 08/02/2025 17:09

I love Asher- it was on my boys wish list. I don't see it as feminine.

Sienna is really pretty. I have two kids at primary now and haven't met any others through any of their classes or school events so I don't think its overused at all.

Dhillon- I don't really get this name. I'd assume you made this up from a boys name to be trendy.

Ashton/ Aston are fine but I think Asher sounds better.

TidyDancer · 08/02/2025 17:06

None of your names are especially to my taste tbh but I would probably say Aston is the better of the boys names although they are all so similar. Sienna is nice. Dhillon I've only ever known as a surname and I don't think it makes a very nice first name and definitely not for a girl.

I like Ashton and Sienna, don't understand too mouthful comment. What makes Ashton mouthful, but Aston and Asher aren't?
Dhillon is chavvy, no way of seeing that name any other way
