Choosing this name for our daughter, but unsure which spelling is best.

I don't really like it, with either spelling (it's the sound more than anything that I don't like), but if I did like it, I think I would prefer the Maud spelling. It looks more traditional and less fussy.

bridgetreilly · 18/02/2025 12:42

Maud. Love it.

Topseyt123 · 18/02/2025 03:26

Not my cup of tea at all, I'm afraid. It's an ugly name whichever way you spell it.

I had a great aunt with the name. She absolutely hated it.

Maud. No need for a silent 'e', seems to be mostly Americans who do it.

Mandarinaduck · 17/02/2025 22:21

I prefer Maud.

Philosopoppy · 17/02/2025 21:30

my lg (12 weeks, born 25/11/24) is a Maud! Without the e…. I think it is stronger without the e!

maudelovesharold · 10/02/2025 23:55

I prefer Maude! Wink

For a long time I preferred Maude but then one of my best friends had a Maud and now I infinitely prefer that. (Funny how a OO mentions the Worst Witch, I have an Enid and we always joke about that when we get them together.)

Maud is cooler, more confident. Maude feels like it's trying to hide a bit.

Actually you might be right

theduchessofspork · 08/02/2025 13:43

I think Maude, even though I think that spelling is not the original

nice name

Emanwenym · 08/02/2025 08:41

I prefer Maud without the E

The E adds nothing

Catlad · 08/02/2025 07:21

Neither.
Maud makes me think of maudlin or merde or murder.

Pinkychilla · 08/02/2025 07:18

I prefer Maude

JustRollWithIt · 08/02/2025 07:07

On paper I prefer Maude as looks prettier. Have you seen the movie Harold and Maude? This is the only time I have come across the name Maude so I associate it with the elderly lady from the movie (she was a nice lady!)

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/02/2025 07:04

@MuddlerInLaw I agree . Maud

MuddlerInLaw · 08/02/2025 06:46

Maud.

It is and always has been a cool, stark name.

Adding a ‘e’ just suggests you don’t like the inherent nature of the name. If you want something frilly and girlish I’d choose something else!

Berlinlover · 08/02/2025 06:43

I wasn’t aware Maude was ever spelled without an e.

orangeblosssom · 08/02/2025 06:34

Maude. More pretty and balanced looking with the e at the end

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 08/02/2025 06:16

Maude 💯

Ferrazzuoli · 08/02/2025 06:13

Maud

muddyford · 08/02/2025 06:13

Maud. Otherwise she'll go through life saying "Maude. With an 'e'. " Cue for baffled looks.

Eenameenadeeka · 08/02/2025 06:00

Maude, I just like the way it looks better
