No, I'm not up the duff yet, but dh and I are discussing any future lo names. We've one for a boy, but none for girls as we can't agree. I love Stella, but DH isn't keen because of Tenesee Williams and Artois, lol! What do you reckon to it?

My LO is called Stella and I love it. A few people have asked if we named her after the beer (hahahah never heard that one before) but weirdly more people say, oh, as in Stella McCartney/ the perfume. Though why anyone would name their child after Stella McCartney is beyond me. It is also I think the name of the Sunday Telegraph magazine which is less than ideal!

This might sound a bit odd but it's very satisfying to say again and again (eg. in songs, when you're trying to lull them to sleep).

It also means that you get gifts with stars on.

evenhope · 10/05/2008 21:02

Just think of the nutty woman from Eastenders. Sorry.

pointydog · 10/05/2008 20:53

lol - the opposite?!

ahundredtimes · 09/05/2008 19:48

Nope PD he didn't say that, he said the opposite. The wanker.

Leda · 09/05/2008 17:21

I like it a lot.

pointydog · 09/05/2008 17:16

what did he say, hundred? Did he say posh? Mine did. The wanker.

AHLH · 09/05/2008 13:07

monkeysmama My niece's Stella related nickname is "Lala"- but she is only 3, I'm sure she'll grow out of it!

ahundredtimes · 09/05/2008 11:55

I liked it. DH HATED it, said it was um, well, you know.

Sunshinemummy · 09/05/2008 11:54

Yes I like it too and also like Estelle and Estella.

monkeysmama · 09/05/2008 11:53

Nicknames?

Ahlh-does your niece have a Stella related nickname? I never had one as a kid and was v jealous of my sisters that did!

OrmIrian · 09/05/2008 11:18

I like it.

rolledhedgehog · 09/05/2008 11:17

I love Stella. Was a possible for new baby but it was a boy!

MrsJohnCusack · 09/05/2008 09:50

i like it a lot

monkeysmama · 09/05/2008 02:37

I love it and will be using it very soon if I have a girl. What nicknames? Is Mae a nice middle name with it?

cyteen · 08/05/2008 10:53

I used to like it, but spending almost a year working opposite a Stella who was an insane psycho hose beast has really put me off. Whenever I hear it now I just think of her

Like Estelle though, and there's certainly nowt wrong with Stella as a name...it's just been ruined for me.

sunnydelight · 08/05/2008 10:31

Nice name. One of my favourite mumsnetters has a daughter named Stella

scottishmummy · 08/05/2008 08:32

likey stella a lot, nice perfume too

AHLH · 08/05/2008 08:24

PS Sister's surname also has "L"s in it, but I think that makes "Stella" scan even better. Especially with Alice in the middle.

AHLH · 08/05/2008 08:22

My 3 year niece is Stella (her parents needed a name that works in 3 languages). When she was a few weeks old my sister took her out and met a muslim girl (clearly oblivious to advertising) she used to work with and had the following conversation:

Girl: "Ah,you've had the baby, what's her name?"
Sister: "Stella"
Girl: "Has she a middle name?"
Sister (fed up of obvious jokes by now): "Oh, yes, Artois"
Girl: "Oh that's lovely, so unususal, where is it from?"
Sister:"No, no, no, it's Alice...."

pointydog · 07/05/2008 21:19

I like Stella a lot. Unfortunately, dh didn't.

wrinklytum · 07/05/2008 21:10

I know a lovely Stella and the name always makes me think of her and smile.

llareggub · 07/05/2008 21:09

Reassuringly expensive...

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/05/2008 21:08

Like it lots. Would be on my list for this bump if it worked better with our surname.

Piffle · 07/05/2008 21:03

I like it too. I know a lovely lady called Stella and my old horse called Stella! And she was truly gorgeous.
I also like/slightly prefer Estella as a variation

RainyWednesday · 07/05/2008 20:11

It would be in our top three girls' names except it sounds horrible with our surname! I love it
