Middle name for Opal?

Hi all,

We’re choosing the name Opal for our little girl, we love the name.
However, cannot for the life of me find a middle name that I love. DP says all my suggestions are “nice” but I want one that I just know is right.
We’ve gone through all family members and can’t find a name there that we love.

Any suggestions please?
Surname is one syllable.

I love the name Opal. I don't think anyone their age will think of the sweets, and wouldn't be my first thought either. Sidney is not my favourite but goes fine if you love it, hardly anyone uses the middle name anyway. Alternatives to Sophia could be Seraphina, Selena, Serena, Sabrina or Sage if you wanted a shorter soft name.

Serena is a beautiful name! Thank you! x

Are you really 100% set on this name?

Do you think your little girl will thank you for naming her Opal?

Sorry, not trying to be rude @xRobin it's just not a great name. No-one will think of the pretty gemstone, all they will think of is opal fruits. And... well, I just wouldn't call her this. Sorry. JMO.

They haven't been called that for decades. The only people who will have that association are likely to be older than the typical demographic having babies now.

Well I’m 40 and my first thought was the gem stone not opal fruits even though I knew them by that name when I was a kid!
I agree with pp nobody ever uses the full name so just pick a name you love. If you prefer a longer name how about
Opal Eugenie
Opal Vivienne
Opal Azalia
Opal Sophia
Opal Evangeline
Opal Juliet
Opal Delilah

Just going through a few middle names we’ve considered with a 2 syllable first name if our little one is a girl

Reetpetitenot · 31/01/2025 19:47

Opal is a lovely name but I'd be careful with some of the middle names suggested - Opal Marina sounds like a car from the early eighties.

Helena
Josephine
Jemima
Vivienne
Vanessa

What’s everyone’s opinions on:

Opal Sidney

I like them individually but don’t think they go together really - also possibly something more classic in the middle would balance better

Opal Verity
Opal Felicity
Opal Jessemy (very Open Sesame, but that’s quite jazzy as PP says)
Opal Antigone

Opal Astrid

I disagree. It’s a beautiful name and I do think of the gemstone. I didn’t think of fruit until someone suggested it.

Cassia, Celeste, Amelie?

I would pick a meaning first though. Something connected to a place, colour, time of year, person that is special to you?

Eg I picked the middle name Erin as I have some Irish background, and also a grandfather Eric.

Oh I love Opal fruits/starburst, my favourite sweets!

I think Sidney is too hard with Opal which is also quite hard sounding itself. I think you need something softer like Sophia.

Thank you, I couldn’t use Sophia as there’s a dog in the family called Sophia 😂 do you know of an alternatives that are soft like that? x

@xRobin

The first thing that came to my mind was 'fruits' but I'm 60! Its definitely a generational thing. Won't mean a thing to today's kids.
I think it's a lovely name, unusual but not too out there

Thank you ☺️ x
