Currently expecting DC4. It will be our first gender surprise and DH and I cannot agree on a boys name.

We love vintage/traditional names, our DDs are Ada, Nelly & Margot with middle names that we felt just flowed. I’m not too fussed about meaning/popularity/origin
Theres a few we can’t use as already in the family: Harry, Arthur, Ralph, Henry, James Thomas, Sidney, Oscar, Wilf.
DH loves Edward/Eddie or Edison/Sonny but I’m really not a fan. Edward feels a bit too pretentious and Sonny sounds like I couldn’t be bothered to think of a better name for my first DS. (Was also the name of our neighbours recently deceased dog)
He also loves Silas but it doesn’t go with our surname at all.

names i love but DH has vetoed are Caleb, Benjamin, George, August, Jack,
If we have another DD her name will be Phoebe Sloane.

Please help ❤️

Interesting that you've picked Phoebe - I wouldn't have said that's it's the same era, but I could be wrong.
Stanley and Monty are great.
Also Ernest, Eugene, Laurie, Sidney, John, Hughie, Billy, Wilf.

What’s pretentious about Edward? It’s an old classic English name?

What about Edgar?

Thanks all. Some really lovely names on here I’ve added Monty Stanley and Albert to the list. A lot are not to my taste. Laurence David Simon etc isn’t really the era I’m after but thank you all for your suggestions!

alfie Freddie Archie ronnie Reggie Frankie etc all big nos from me
wilf and vinnie are actually my dogs names, I didn’t think vinnie would get a mention so didn’t add that to OP 😅
godfrey is my best friends surname
but there’s some really interesting names on here and some I’ve added to the list
I love Kit, but husband thinks it’s a bit private school.
my friends recently had a Jacob, althought really lovely name. Probably why I love Caleb so much.
Love Monty & Charlie.
@Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth funny, my uncles name is James Edwin 😅 I’m not fond of any of the Ed names tbh

Thoughts on Laurie? Great name, timeless and classless.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 30/01/2025 23:17

You seem to like two syllable names ending in a vowel sound - traditional but not too common.

How about
Jonah
Chester
Noah
Ezra
Eli / Elijah
Jesse
Oscar

Doesn't fit the mould but I love Elis

Reuben also nice / Ru
