Expecting first baby, a daughter.
Husband is very keen on Maude (also open to Maud). My name is Morgane and I am often called Morg, worried it might sound too similar. Other than that I like it. Thoughts?

I love it but spelt Maud

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/01/2025 22:56

I absolutely love it!

Mirabai · 23/01/2025 22:55

Love. I know a very beautiful stylish Maud so that helps.

My mum used to sing a song from many, many years ago called Come into The Garden Maude.

“for that black bat, night, has flown” its Tennyson - my Nan would sing it to us
in a quavering voice, excruciating - I think it was a music hall song

Namechangedforthis25 · 23/01/2025 22:27

I know a French maud - beautiful name for a very beautiful girl!

Maude is a step too far down "ugly old lady name lane" for me, sorry. I like quite a few of those clunky, old-dear names of my great/granny's generation like Mabel, Ivy, Ayda etc. but I can't get on board with Maude, it just has no redeeming features for me. Sorry!

Nikitaspearlearring · 23/01/2025 21:55

I really love it. I prefer the Maud spelling.

I love Mavis too (after my lovely aunt). It means blackbird. I know it's not popular though.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 23/01/2025 21:50

Sorry but I think it's awful.
I've got a horrible old lady name, one that has never been popular but I slightly prefer that to Maud.

24CRZZNKKA · 23/01/2025 21:49

I automatically think of the girl in 'The Worst Witch' book. Absolutely loved that book as a child.

But sorry OP, the name is not my cup of tea

SkaneTos · 23/01/2025 21:46

Maude/Maud is such a lovely name! Not too similar to Morg.

(Morgane/Morg is a lovely name, too!)

Vettrianofan · 23/01/2025 21:44

My parents used to have a neighbour called Maude, in her 70s. She moved house so never see her now. Lovely name.

Gorgeous name.

Fairyvocals · 23/01/2025 21:34

I love it. Very stylish.

Lyn348 · 23/01/2025 21:31

It just makes me think of a thin lipped, miserable person for some reason. To me it is a completely joyless name.

Philandbill · 23/01/2025 21:26

I love it.

MayAnneisMine · 23/01/2025 21:25

Awful name

dixon86 · 23/01/2025 21:25

Awful

WhitegreeNcandle · 23/01/2025 21:11

I love it. I had a Great Auntie Maud who was an absolute hoot. Smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish and let me stay up till gone midnight when I stayed over at my Grannies. They’d wash each others hair and cackle away. I thinks it’s beyond Old Granny now and time for a revival.

Her best friends called her Maudie but not all the time, just when being affectionate

JC03745 · 23/01/2025 21:10

Sorry, it sounds like morgue!

NancyJoan · 23/01/2025 21:08

Love it! I know a very small, very lovely one.

Bamboogie · 23/01/2025 21:07

Dislike very much - sounds dowdy, frumpy and grey, and too much like maudlin. Certainly don't use Lyn as a middle name!

QueSyrahSyrah · 23/01/2025 21:05

I also know a French Maud, she's very cool and carefree and stylish, so it doesn't have any 'old lady' connotations to me.

ForeverinBJ · 23/01/2025 21:03

Lovely name
