Maude

Expecting first baby, a daughter.
Husband is very keen on Maude (also open to Maud). My name is Morgane and I am often called Morg, worried it might sound too similar. Other than that I like it. Thoughts?

Drop the M. Aude is much better

Ozmumofboys3 · 25/01/2025 05:27

Not keen, seems a bit close to the word mould

BaronessBomburst · 24/01/2025 21:53

The Empress Maud, Queen Mathilda. Proclaimed Queen of England but never crowned. 👑

CrushingOnRubies · 24/01/2025 18:34

Not keen!
It's not a pretty old lady name. Ans also Maude in Rivals isn't the nicest of characters

caringcarer · 24/01/2025 18:28

Alice Maude Mary was my Grans name. I've always liked it. Everyone called her Maude or Maudie because her mother was called Alice. No idea why she called her daughter her own name.

okydokethen · 24/01/2025 17:58

It's nice enough a bit twee but too close to your name I think

I love that it’s little old lady vibes but this lovely youthful beautiful Maude will challenge that connotation. Justice for all the little old lady Mauds who used to be young and stunning!

I wonder if those who hate Maud also hate Audrey. Know a few little Audrey and Aubreys! In fact Aubrey is apparently the ultimate cool boy name at the moment.

Edited

I know a baby Audrey and can confirm I think it's a terrible name.

Ditto Ethel and Doris.

Muddypawsies · 24/01/2025 16:52

Conjures up a dowdy little old lady, but I love it all the same!

Namechangedforthis25 · 24/01/2025 16:45

Honestly absolutely love it

it probably does depend on the person though

a frumpy Maud will suit that name

an elegant, chic, beautiful Maud will suit it

i know the latter and it really suits her - it’s stunning

VenusClapTrap · 24/01/2025 15:33

I love it. Classy, strong, elegant.

Mirabai · 24/01/2025 14:22

It absolutely is.

Comedycook · 24/01/2025 14:21

Some vintage names are so glamorous and elegant....Maude is not one of them. So frumpy

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 24/01/2025 14:16

We have a Maude. I obviously adore the name and it suits her!

Edited to add that I never read the opinions of others because we know that it is very marmite but no one has ever said anything awful to our faces! 😂

Mirabai · 24/01/2025 14:14

Maud Gonne…

Bloom15 · 24/01/2025 11:28

I hate Maud/Maude sorry

Waterboatlass · 24/01/2025 11:10

I love it!! Maude in Harold and Maude is an absolute queen. Works at all ages, I worked with a 20 something Maude a few years ago and it was surprising to meet one but suited her.

MassiveSalad22 · 24/01/2025 11:05

Maude is v cool! I like it a lot.

’Maudie’ is a v good movie too, true story about artist Maud Lewis. Maude Apatow has helped give the name a bit of a revival/made it seems more acceptable.

Don’t know why it’s any worse than other great-grandma names that are popular at the moment - Edith, June, Mabel, Margot etc

MyDadLovedBlondieToo · 24/01/2025 11:00

Elissaisnotmyname · 23/01/2025 19:36

No it is very dated. I was named after a 70’s singer which I hate my Dad loved her.

Here is a clue

Me too 😉 I hated it when I was younger, but now I like it and the reason behind it.

Most names are dated or become so. Sharon/Tracey/Debbie usually born in the 70s, Lauren/Gemma/Kimberly usually born in the 80s…Evie/Ava/Olivia usually born in the 2010s/2020s.

ETA: I like Maude more than Maud. Love your name too OP!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 24/01/2025 10:38

Reminds me of Barbara Windsor's character in Carry on Again Doctor - she'd changed her name from Maud Boggins to Goldie Locks. And Maud is a bit like maudlin. How about Goldie? Grin

genesis92 · 24/01/2025 10:33

Literally one of the worst names in existence. Sorry 😂

BestThingAtThisParty · 24/01/2025 10:33

What about something like Marnie instead? Still cool and classic, but without the 'dowdy / old lady' connotations?

clarrylove · 24/01/2025 10:32

Apparently I was very nearly called Maud. I was horrified and so glad my parents decided against it. It's a dowdy name. Would you like to be called it?

wandawaves · 24/01/2025 10:30

I think it's awful, sorry.
