I have a top 3 for baby names for baby girl but really struggling! I’d love to know opinions on the below three:

  1. Bali (pronounced bah lee)
  2. Soulie (soul Lee)
  3. Capri

i like an unusual ‘ie’ sounding name. Open to further suggestions!

thanks! :)

Bali - A lifetime of having to spell out the name as to UK ears it'll sound like Barley.

Soulie - just, no. And again, spelling problems, because of the word 'solely', dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/solely#google_vignette

Capri - If you want to do European town names, there are classier ones than this.

Thanks. Appreciate your opinion. Any other Italian town names you can think of?

Agree.. Capri pants are a thing here.

I can't get past Capri sun though.

There's a rare name and then there's a ridiculous name.

Not to mention Ford Capri @Acc0untant ! 😆

Speak for yourself but capri pants is widely used in the uk!!

Not heard anyone use the term myself. Would say 3/4 trousers. Never heard anyone say pants. Maybe age differences between us?

I live in the UK, we don’t call them ‘Capri or Pants’ here so wouldn’t be an issue.

Capri is the nicest. Soulie isn’t my cup of tea at all, neither is Bali but I prefer that to Soulie.

Similar names that match your criteria:
Mabli
Tesni
Tansy
Leilani
Zuri
Cali/Kali

Thank you! Leilani and Cali were also on the list! :)

I don't think you've read the replies. The poor child will be a laughing stock.

You're naming a real live baby who will grow up to be a real live adult. Please give them some dignity. There is a reason why these are rare. It's because they're the names of cars not people.

Edited

I would like to think, having a rare and unusual name myself that I most definitely have dignity. I love my name and am so happy my mum didn’t call me a ‘typical’ 90’s girl name :)

Thanks! I don’t really want a recognized name to be honest. I would love a name that’s rare so names like Katie, Hayley and Josie are not what we’re going for. Hallie’s cute though

I don’t know any of these as names, Bali and Capri are places and Soulie sounds like the word solely. None of them would be for me but Capri is the one that sounds most like a name to me.

How about

Mali
Ailie
Callie
Marlie
Nellie
Mabli

This

sel2223 · 22/01/2025 18:40

They sound like types of ice lolly to me, not my personal taste.

Soulee would be my favourite of the 3

HugoYorway · 22/01/2025 18:30

We got married in Rhyl and honeymooned in Magaluf. Everybody compliments us on the DC's names.

Sorry to be blunt but they're all pretty awful IMO!
Bali is a country but I guess if people call their kids India.....although I'd expect a lifetime of being asked if she was conceived there and it does feel more masculine than feminie.
Soulie is too try hard to make up something different.
Capri should be a nickname for Caprice (which is also awful) and I can't get past Capri Sun!!
Can you not find any recognised names that end if "ie" or that sound?
Marley
Marnie
Millie
Maisie
Amelie
Sadie
Katie
Billie
Bonnie
Lexi
Hallie
Hayley
Josie
