What do you think of the name Sinead?

Still strugglin with girls names.

One that wasnt immediantly dismissed and is now the first girls name we have actually considered serious, was Sinead.

We have a Nicole, Lauren and Serena. Someone on another thread pointed out that all have E and N in them. and they work well together. Does Sinead fit in there?

We say 'Ay (rhymes with Day) -veen', but we spell it Aoibhin. It means 'beautiful sheen'. Lots of variants though.

I love Sinead. My BF in school was Sinead. We called her Shin. And Hairy. And Dotty...

I worked with a student called Aoibheann.

I had to ask an Irish colleague how to pronounce it .

I have a Scots Gaelic 'Helen' and a Gaelic 'Rose' (after DH's beloved nana from Cork).

DH had boring boys names. His is pretty boring. But he was all, 'I dunno. Erm, Ian. James. Scott. Stuart.'

Yawn. I had to be more proactive!

well done all the bumpy ladies!

Sineád is lovely, also Siobhán, Maireád =Margaret /Pearl.
Muireann is lovely also. Aileen / Eileen = Helen / light.
Aisling = dream.

Sionnán is lovely also (pronounced Shun-nawn)

Aoibheann = fair /lovely is pronounced Eve-een.

Aidan = fire is lovely for a boy also.

this is quite a nice site for celtic names!

the trust where i had my first didn't offer 20 weeks scans.

i'm not throwing up so much now. just the heartburn again.

like i said, i'm about 90% certain it's another girl.

oh thats good expat. as found out recently that not everywhere in scotland gets a 20 week scan.

has the sickness subsided at all? have had a better couple of weeks, but still plaugued by dreadful headaches.

Imogen goes well with your other names and has the E and N thing going on. Sinead is pretty though.

Yes, we get a nuchal scan and 20 week scan standard.

More if your nuchal comes back high risk or you develop anaemia, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.

If you want to be picky constantly explaining you could really go to town and go for the fáda. (accent)

So technically, it should be Sinéad.

But I think it is a fab name and should be more widely used.

do u get a 20 week scan up where you are?

i am being bombarbded with scans, inc specialist ones at guys hospital again. double whammy due to dh (viral) heart probs and dd1 leaking valve. so will get to see this little one loads, as will also be having growth scans every 4 weeks due to gestional diabetes last time.

Mirren and Strewn, well, that's how it's said around here, there's a wee boy in P4 of Dd1's soon-to-be school with that name.

But not any others I've seen.

Actually, one of the students I used to work with, a wee girl from Ayrshire, is the one who suggested it.

bernard is a v v long running joke, dating way back to when i was pregnant with dd1. dh says it like 'Buuuuuurn-nard' in a deep gruff voice. it is actually growing on me, its only taken over 8years to get me to like it lol.

LGJ, did i spell Sinead correctly?

So you're not really considering Bernard as an alternative to Isaac if it's a boy .

Ooops. Sorry! I like both names.

I'm hoping the nausea abates soon - a little over 15 weeks now .

Heartburn kicking in.

I'm reasonably sure it's another girl, but may or may not be proven wrong on 13 June.

If it's a girl, she'll be Muireann. If it's a boy, he'll be Struan.

Sinead's a lovely name, and really unusual (have only ever met one Sinead before).
