What do you think of the name Orson?

I love the meaning of 'bear/ bear cub' and that it's not too popular in the UK... thoughts?

Orson Cart...

If that doesn't bother you though it's a nice name, and I like the "bear" meaning. It's the male equivalent of Ursula

GrimDamnFanjo · 13/01/2025 17:30

I really like it but check it works with your accent and cant be misheard as "our son"

MassiveSalad22 · 13/01/2025 17:34

It’s not for me. I know one who must be about 5. Orson. Hmm. It just makes me think of horrible Orson from Desperate Housewives and I don’t like the ‘Or’ sound - just makes me think awful, oral, awww (whiney), arson, arse.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/01/2025 17:36

Oh I loved Orson the band! Saw them live several times. I'm not sure for a child though.

@KIlliePieMyOhMy

Yep - I went immediately to Mork as well. Aaah good times... 😁

Didn’t Rufus Hound have a brother called Orson? Neigh, I’m thinking of the local boozer.

TangerineClementine · 15/01/2025 02:05

I know an Orson. His nickname is Sonny.

DramaAlpaca · 15/01/2025 02:07

Ooof. That is a seriously unattractive name.

badboss2020 · 16/09/2026 07:40

I know a 18 yo Orson. When DC told me I said doesn’t everyone say “Mork calling Orson” and they just looked at me like I was mad. I’m obv old.

wishfulthinking25 · 16/09/2026 08:14

I know one. It’s cute but several people pronounce it wrong and I don’t think it sounds particularly nice

HorseandHeron · 16/09/2026 08:19

First thought: Orson Wells
Second thought: bear cub.

I like it.

MurphysColeslaw · 16/09/2026 08:19

I’m in the Mork and Mindy club I’m afraid.

Orson nn Sonny is nice

I really like that. Sonny was DS1's nn as a baby but it didn't stick.

Epoisses · 16/09/2026 08:48

As long as your surname isn't Cart

Ipsevenenabibas · 16/09/2026 08:50

It's orful.

Sunbringer · 16/09/2026 08:52

People in my area would think you were saying ‘our son’. But they’d soon get used to it. There are kids wandering around called Fox, Sully, Four and Quartz, there are international names too that are hard to pronounce. It’s a name and it will come to suit him.
