It's about the only girls name we have both instantly liked when chatting through so many for months, and we have all but settled on that being the name. But then I read online it's a stripper/horrific name to give a child. Is it really that bad??

I really like Roxanne and Roxy. It’s fun and punchy. My DD goes to school with a couple of Roxannes. Go for it!

It felt like an edgy / rock-star type name to me back in the 80’s! But now it sounds fresh and different - I like Roxana best, and Roxy for short.

My first thought was the Police song so it isn't a name that I would saddle a child with. But it's quite an old song now so maybe that's a generational connection which doesn't matter so much now.

There's also Roxana (Rox -Are - Na). DD might have been that, but I'm not keen on Roxy as a NN.

Roxanne was the wife of Alexander the Great. Screw any contemporary prejudice, it's a fine ancient name.

Roxanne is due a comeback although like the previous poster, I prefer Roxana.

Oksana, which is similar in sound, might also be attractive to you.
I prefer Roxana to Roxanne as I hear Roxanne as too blunt in sound. Roxy is not a fave. Foxy Roxy.

It's just because of the song. The song is old. Unless there's a Moulin Rouge remake in her lifetime, she'll probably be fine.

I like it, i associate it with the secretary on LA Law though and she definitely wasn’t a stripper

I love Roxanne, I don't think it sounds like a stripper name at all! And if she wanted to shorten it to Roxy she'd have that option.
