Please can I ask people's opinions on Thor? TIA

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Absolutely not. Not for a human baby. A cat or a dog maybe.

He could use super hero's real names but thor is a bit much

Steve Rogers
Tony
Robbie Reyes
Eric Brooks
Stephen

A human baby?!

Oh please.

Your child will be the weedy, stick-thin wimp with glasses. Eternally having the piss taken out of him for being called Thor.

Would you call your kid Einstein?

🤦🏻‍♀️

That's really shite of you to have said that.

How about Theodore then he could choose either Theo or Thor when he grows up himself?

Or Teddy or Eddy.

DD1s second name is Thor. His first name in Gethin which is Welsh.

I’m not being funny but Gethin Thor sounds a bit like getting there.

SwedishEdith · 05/01/2025 21:37

I went out with a Tør when I was a teenager. His name was part of the attraction.

It’s a fun name, he could grow up with a great personality with that name. I’d go for it.

Reminds me of this song

Did you seriously just say that? What the actual fuck is wrong with a kid who is small, wears glasses and is shy? I don’t think any name is safe around people like you who come out with shit like that. I’d love to know how you look

DontshootmyRaptors · 05/01/2025 21:34

I wasn’t sure at first but it’s growing on me, it’s far better than some of the poncy names people come up with these days like Dante, which to me is what you’d call a racing horse.
Thor
Tony
Toby
Tom
just cos we’re don’t used to hearing it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 05/01/2025 21:33

You know what, I like Viking shit. Go for it.

I absolutely LOVE it, and it was on our list if we had a second boy, but with the longer Thorbjorn (Thunder Bear) to give him options, plus soften the full on Thor superhero vibe. My son was born before the MCU took off, and having watched them now, I am glad I would have gone for a longer version to sound less MCU if he didn't want to be just Thor.

Yes this is the bane. Thunder bear. Hadn’t realised it was Thorbjorn. They spell it torben and call him torbs for short .

No Scandinavian heritage. Hubby loves Marvel and yes would pronounce 'Thor' with the T H

Thunder bear is great.

Please no, poor kid how embarrassing, it will be fine up until he's 6, then he will be teased. A nickname possibly but at least at school and employment and even in love he can be something much more normal. Tell your husband to change his own name by deed poll and then imagine telling everyone at work 🤣.

VeryQuaintIrene · 05/01/2025 21:27

How will it go with your surname? Thor Smith (Thmith?) sounds a bit odd to me. I really wouldn't.

AmiablePedant · 05/01/2025 21:24

Would you call your child Mars? Forget the Marvel stuff, you're naming him after a god of War. A bit creepy.

Frequency · 05/01/2025 21:24

You're not serious?

If it is a Marvel-related name you're after I'd give more consideration to names like Tony, Steve, Stephen, Bruce, etc.

Or if Thor is your favourite character maybe go with Chris, after the actor.

Suimai · 05/01/2025 21:24

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/01/2025 21:08

Yeah literally nobody has said that. And some of the names on this board are just daft but people on here love them. But Thor is more of a pet name if you are British, especially when naming something after a comic book.

She didn’t mean it literally…

Blatantlybeyondhelp · 05/01/2025 21:24

As an aside, the only Thor, British born, that I know is an aggressive rabid antivacc, conspiracy theory tin foil nutter that is welcome to his view point if he would but keep it to himself.

Maddy70 · 05/01/2025 21:22

Just no

HolidayBrochure · 05/01/2025 21:22

Ah here. No, just no.

Blatantlybeyondhelp · 05/01/2025 21:19

Thor the God of Thunder
Went riding on his Philly.
"I'm Thor", he cried
The horse replied
"You've forgotten your thaddle, thilly"
