Happy New Year 🎊
We've chosen the name Naomi for DD who will be our first and last. However, we're utterly at a loss for a middle name.
DH prefers another name that travels well but not fussed about it. I have a soft spot for more traditional Brit, uncommon but not too marmite. I don't want the combined name to be on the nose religious as we are not particularly devout. Surname is English and 2 syllables - something like "Baldwin"

If you go Naomi Ruth, you've encapsulated the essence of a beautiful story about strong women - I know you said you're not particularly religious, but I think it sounds good, too.

Beautiful name OP. Naomi was the name we chose for a girl, but alas we had boys!
We would've had Naomi Anne as it's a family name on both sides.
But, in a similar vein to PP saying about 2 middle names, does she need to have one at all?

I've considered it as I myself don't have one. It does seem more "complete" though.

Responding to an earlier post about pronunciation.

I would pronounce Naomi as "no may" and Naiomi as "nigh oh may".

Out of curiosity, have you had to contend with varying pronunciations? I've found the pronunciation a wee bit debated on other posters' threads. Seems most say Neigh-omi (as in horses neigh) but we're more likely to get Nigh-omi (as in Bill Nighy) where we live.

Yes, people are always pronouncing it wrong and calling me Niomi but I’ve got used to it

I work with a lovely Naomi, and she pronounces hers as Neigh-Me, missing out the ‘oh’ sound entirely.

Ah, I know it has a Japanese origin as well so that may account for one of the variations. It UK it seems to be a matter of the prevailing accent more than anything.

You could always spell it Nyomi if you want it pronounced that way.

Don’t do this! Bloody awful.

Thecrunchbunch · 01/01/2025 17:27

My daughter is Naomi Autumn and she loves her name.

If she’s going to be an only why don’t you each give her the middle name you prefer and let her have three names? Nobody uses them anyway. If you agree on your first name then all good.

This. No one knows middle names so call her whatever you each fancy.

I think given 3 syllables, a one syllable middle name would work well:

Naomi Claire
Naomi Grace
Naomi Jane
Naomi Joy
Naomi May
Naomi Rose

Yes the three syllable Naomi goes well with a one syllable middle name..

Candice Marie from Nuts in May was also a good flowing name 😂

Jade, Kate, Claire, Grace, Jane, Joy, May and Rose are filler middle names, as are Anne and Louise. Use something more meaningful.
