What comes to mind when you think of a family living in London with two children named Felix and Casper?

I like these names.
I nearly called one of mine Felix, as I like that it means happy. And Caspar, spelt like that, is the name of one of my favourite artists, so that's good too.

Girasoli · 10/01/2025 11:31

I'm not pregnant but they are both on my list for hypothetical baby no.3

I think they are nice, normal names. I know DC with both these names.

Comedycook · 03/01/2025 10:27

My first thought was cats

If I knew a family with boys called this, I'd think like a pp said, that they're a middle class cliché.

reelcat · 03/01/2025 10:26

Love these names

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 02/01/2025 17:53

Upper middle class and not all that original. I also much prefer the spelling Caspar.

CrashThere · 02/01/2025 15:44

I only know one of each. One is my age, and a younger Caspar, who's lovely. They're regular names now, but weren't then. My first thought on the names then was that Felix doesn't shorten, and it didn't go with his surname. I liked Caspar especially as it really suited him (his older sibling's name was something completely unremarkable).

Bloody hell, what a mean thread. They are perfectly nice names. For cats.

And humans.

There are three boys called Felix in my son’s year at school. Don’t know any Casper’s.

Strikeoutnow · 02/01/2025 09:40

Same

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 02/01/2025 06:00

I know more Felix’ amongst Dc school groups than cats.

Nice names - wasn’t Caspar one of the 3 Kings?

EwwwwwwDavid · 02/01/2025 03:35

Cats

Strikeoutnow · 02/01/2025 01:35

Oh!! I'm surprised by some of the responses here,

They are quite predictable tbh.

In terms of the OP they wouldn’t raise an eyebrow, presume they are upper middle class &/or European. I’m in London though & Casper was a film I watched as a child so it’s pretty old!

SwirlyShirly · 02/01/2025 01:24

Oh!! I'm surprised by some of the responses here, I think the names are lovely together and you should go for it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/01/2025 00:45

I wouldn't think anything at all - those names were very popular at toddler groups near me 9 years ago (northeast London). My son has both in his school year and cubs.

BlueSilverCats · 02/01/2025 00:43

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 01/01/2025 01:02

They'd really wanted cats but settled for children.

Or ghosts...

TheSquareMile · 02/01/2025 00:36

My first though would be that the family might be from Austria, Germany (esp. South) or Scandinavia, as I think that both names are common names for boys in those areas.

I think that it would be spelled 'Caspar' in Austria. It's a name I really love, actually.

I went to a German University for a while and met men called Felix and Caspar then.

strangeandfamiliar · 01/01/2025 22:36

Individually fine - both names are reasonably common in my bit of London - but together they do sound slightly comical and feline. Like Tom and Jerry.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 01/01/2025 22:31

Sylvester and Tom are next, then a bear named Pooh please and a piglet named Piglet.
If they aren’t originally from UK the names could be chalked up to just being unfortunate.

RaraRachael · 01/01/2025 22:27

In London probably fairly OK but they'd be very odd choices where I am.

Aglassaday · 01/01/2025 22:12

Seems like a perfectly sweet and happy family!

eatreadsleeprepeat · 01/01/2025 22:12

First thought ghosts, second thought cats.

MidnightPatrol · 01/01/2025 20:42

Would be normal round here, wouldn’t think twice.

JoyousPinkPeer · 01/01/2025 20:37

Cat and ghost

AgnesX · 01/01/2025 20:37

Erm, I'd think that you knew my mum and her cats (the cats were both Siamese).
