Louisa or Clara?

Due in a few weeks with a little girl and we’ve narrowed it down to Louisa or Clara. My husband is French so we wanted a name which works in the U.K and France.

I’m completely torn which one to go for!

What would you choose? :)

Clara

Harmonyrose · 27/12/2024 19:15

I love both names, it is hard to choose. Both are closer to heart and sounds beautiful. You can use one of the name as a middle name.

Raininginparadise2 · 27/12/2024 18:22

Louisa 🥰

RumpleDumple · 27/12/2024 18:11

Both lovely names but I'd choose Clara

TabloidFootprints · 27/12/2024 18:10

They are both pretty but I prefer Clara because of the proliferation of different vowels in Louisa- that’s just my weird view though because my middle name is Louise and I found it very difficult to spell as a child, it often came out Lousie!

Louisa!

Judging on how often it comes up on these threads I think Clara is quite heavily used currently.

Love Clara, Louisa not bad either but Clara is gorgeous

Notellinganyone · 27/12/2024 16:02

I love both but Louisa is more unusual at the moment.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 27/12/2024 15:17

Our Louisa has been the only one in the whole school from age 4 up until 16. I've never known another one, so it's pretty rare nowadays.

Like Louisa love Clara
a bit of me is sad I didn’t have a dd to use it!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/12/2024 21:08

Louisa is gorgeous but unfortunately I really dislike the diminutive Lou (and even Lulu isn’t that great, except on a toddler), so personally I’d have to stick with Clara.

However if you aren’t bothered about nn’s then I’d go for elegant Louisa - it feels more timeless to me due to lesser use, where as Clara seems to go in and out of fashion a bit more.

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/12/2024 20:54

Love both! Clara is my favourite by a small margin, but it’s climbing the charts so might be everywhere in a few years, whereas Louisa is less commonly used, so it depends if popularity matters to you? I’d still choose Clara though, I think.

theduchessofspork · 26/12/2024 18:23

Both nice but Clara for me

FeistyFrankie · 26/12/2024 18:19

Clara, definitely

mathanxiety · 26/12/2024 18:18

I agree Louisa feels fresher than Clara.

There's lovely diminutive potential, too, that would be nice for French family.

SorryNotSorryForWhatISaid · 26/12/2024 18:17

Louisa is definitely the winner for me.

motleymop · 26/12/2024 18:15

Louisa. It's a pretty name.

shoopshoopdedoo · 26/12/2024 18:13

Louisa! Feels much fresher than Clara, though both are nice

Bellybootcut · 26/12/2024 17:49

Both really lovely. You can't go wrong with either.
