Baby name help…

I couldn’t decide on a name for my baby (who’s already been born) as I had so many I liked, finally decided on one, Rosie. Now I’m unsure… not sure whether to change it (or what to) or stick with it. Thoughts…

I’m not entirely sure, maybe I’m worried it wouldn’t suit her as an adult. But I know a few adult Rosie’s and it suits them just fine. These comments are helpful - perhaps I just needed to realise it’s a nice name and I chose it for a reason

I know a couple of adult Rosies of different ages and it suits them so well - I love it for all ages 😊

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/12/2024 22:04

While Rosie is not my own cup of tea, I don’t hate it and personally much prefer it to Ruby and Phoebe, as at least Rosie has the choice of an obvious diminutive if she does dislike her name when older (the classic/timeless Rose, which I do love).

But I really wouldn’t worry OP - Rosie is not a name that’s likely to cause your DC any hassle in life, which is the most important thing imo. I personally wouldn’t change it.

Personally , I prefer Rose, or a non frilly long version such as Rosalind or Rosamund but if you love Rosie it's a perfectly good name. Even from the perspective of someone who doesn't love it, it's fine. There must be a reason you liked it enough to choose it at the time.

Ruby and Phoebe fine too but you didn't choose them. I'd have confidence in your conviction unless you're really leaning towards one in particular. It could be that hearing and seeing 'Rosie' so often these days makes it look strange to you!

What is it that's making you doubtful?

Sheeparelooseagain · 26/12/2024 16:14

Rosie is a fine happy name. I prefer it to the others you mentioned.

Treespice · 26/12/2024 15:38

I absolutely love Rosie. I didnt choose it because I have 3 close relatives with variations of that name already, but it would have been high up my list otherwise.
I love Phoebe and Ruby too. What is it you’re unsure of about Rosie? Are you ok generally? (Sometimes name doubts can be a sign of pnd, talking from experience!)

DirtyFencePanel · 26/12/2024 15:38

I had Rosie and Phoebe on my final shortlist, I also liked Felicity but we ended up naming her Eliza. We sometimes look at her and say ‘we should have called you Rosie’ 🤦‍♀️😂

HonestCrab · 26/12/2024 15:35

Phoebe is my preference. Rosie is a bit twee, but I don't think it's worth changing it unless there is another name you love.

Phoebe 9/10
Ruby 8/10

Me too

*thick brown hair not thigh!

Ladybyrd · 26/12/2024 06:23

Rosie is nice.

We picked a name well ahead of his birth. I think he was about 5 months old and I had a wobble - I wanted to change it but had no idea what to. I suddenly felt like he didn't look like a... let's say Bob. However, he changed so much over a few months - thigh brown hair to fine blonde - eyes blue to green to hazel. He grew into it in the end. I think it's normal to have a wobble, particularly with the first. You're second guessing yourself on everything.

If you know a lot of narcissistic Rosies that is pure coincidence, so it’s one thing the OP doesn’t need to worry about.

Op asked for thoughts and opinions , you however I did not ask yours be triggered by someone else's views elsewhere wouldn't be surprised if your name is rose or Rosie your showing some of the traits with your ego influenced impulses to respond to someone who wasn't speaking to you. Have a nice day and stay bothered 😘

Please change it I know too many rosies and they all have the same personality traits it has put me off the name so much all really self centered people massive egos and just quite narc type people . Besides it sounds like a dogs name also .

I like Rose better than Rosie, which is a bit cutesy as a full name, but anyway there are lots of Rosies about though many of them will have a different variation as a full name.

It’s a nice name, better than Ruby I think, which is a bit dated. I like Phoebe and it would be a bit less common. Whatever you do will be fine.

I really dislike all the longer forms of the name so settled on that one

But Rose is the original name, and Rosie is one of the longer forms of the name.

Needanewname42 · 26/12/2024 00:59

Rosie is lovely and has option of Ros or Rose if she wants in adulthood.

Does she have a middle name?
I think changing it will cause more hassle than it's worth. GP, health visitor, benefits agency.

GrettaGreen · 26/12/2024 00:54

Ah Rosie's a fab name!

Rosie is a gorgeous name! Keep it!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/12/2024 21:33

Rosie is lovely - don't doubt yourself!

shoopshoopdedoo · 25/12/2024 21:01

I love the name Rosie. I also like Phoebe and Ruby. No need to change the name!!

Sunshineandsurf · 25/12/2024 20:59

Should I have chosen Phoebe or Ruby…?

SantaHoHoHo · 25/12/2024 20:58

It’s lovely. I’m a teacher with 30 years under my belt and have only ever taught a handful of Rosies.

Sunshineandsurf · 25/12/2024 20:57

Yes the babies full name has been registered as she’s a few months old now. I’m just having a wobble but unsure why as I haven’t got another name I would definitely want to change it to. Perhaps I just need reassurance it’s a nice (not overly common) name?!
