We are due our second little girl in spring and love the name Nell, just really struggling for a middle name. Any suggestions?

Nell is a bit of a dead-end name. I think it just works well on its own.

For some reason the name Cassidy or Jessica or Melody popped into my head though!

i think a name that has the meter “thump-thumpety” is good.

My Granny's name was Nell Daisy May, she always said she sounded like a herd of cows, so maybe not that
😂
I was soooo tempted to use it for DD, but I strongly dislike Nelly so decided against.

Down?

Luminousalumnus · 20/12/2024 12:06

The baby.

Nell is lovely. Some I like the cadence of with it - Elizabeth, Harriet, Marie, Julianne, April, Summer, Margaret, Marianne, Sarah, Catherine, Alicia, Alethea, Felicity.

BlanklyMyDear that's always risky if you don't like the full name as much though. I'd agree with many names but I don't love Helen and it has such different vibes from Nell.

PrincessOfPreschool · 20/12/2024 12:03

I think Nell Dorothy is a little staid. Also the stress is on the first syllable not the middle one. Georgina or Jemimah is lovely though from PPs.

What's your mum's name? DH mum? Your grandmother? Perhaps your maiden name or mum's maiden name?

Sunnyflow · 20/12/2024 11:46

Nell Louise sounds like one name, Neloise

BlanklyMyDear · 20/12/2024 11:02

Why not give her the full name - Helen or Helena - using Nell as the diminutive? The longer name would run far more elegantly with any middle name.

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/12/2024 10:56

As a one syllable name, I think 3 syllables with the stress on the middle syllable would sound good.

Emilia (Amelia)
Rebecca
Chiara
Eliza
Matilda
Sophia
Aurora
Maria
Savannah
Leilani
Alexis
Vanessa

If you can find a family name with that rhythm then all the better.

Jolenepleasetakeawaymyman · 20/12/2024 09:09

Good idea using a family name. If none suitable something like Nell Louise?

As Nell is short a longer name seems nice . I like Nell😀

Katherineryan1986 · 20/12/2024 09:06

I like the use of family names for middle names. How does your own name sound with Nell? Or a female version of the father's name?

I like Nell as it's a derivative form of Helen and my name is Helen 😁. My sister calls me Nelly 🥰
