Lyra's sibling is called...

36 weeks pregnant and the sex of the baby is a surprise.

For a boy we love Harry and that will be his name.

Girls is the struggle. We can't have/don't want another L name, which rules out names we like such as Lilian. Our surname is also a colour, so we don't want a flower or gem.

Don't like anything too twee or floral sounding. Would like something feminine and strong, like Lyra....

Names we like but won't use:
Lilian
Ruby
Charlotte
Sienna
Violet
Harper

Names we like and might potentially use:
Bridget (Bridie)
Nina
Harriet (Hattie)
Eloise

If anyone has any other suggestions please give me your thoughts!

Our granddaughter Lyra has a sister called Freya

theotherfossilsister · 19/12/2024 17:48

I think of Lyra as literary, because of the novels, so other literary names might be

Emma
Roberta (the railway children)
Lucy (Narnia, overused but lovely name)
Matilda
Hermione (Harry Potter but also Greek myth and Shakespeare)
Posy or Petrova (ballet shoes, I love Petrova but no way would my partner let me use it)

You could have Hester and have Hettie as a nickname.

or how about Astrid?

I absolutely love Stella but my husband doesn't like it cry

Estella? Very Dickensian so goes with literary theme

Oh I really like Hera! I think we would be more inclined to use as a middle name though...

I love Aurora with the shortening Rory. I also really like Elodie, but I think it may be too 'pretty' if that makes any sense

Hero?

LBFseBrom · 19/12/2024 17:38

Lyrs is a brake pad for a cycle.

Nikitaspearlearring · 19/12/2024 17:21

I hadn't thought of Juno. I really like that with Lyra.

TeenLifeMum · 19/12/2024 16:18

Heidi
Matilda
Kitty
Alice

I love the name Lyra and have a literary name link for my dc.

CissOff · 19/12/2024 16:16

Nina is one of my all time favourite names! So pretty and underused.

HollopingHooligans · 19/12/2024 16:16

I do love Nina though 😍

HollopingHooligans · 19/12/2024 16:15

Freya?

How about Kezia? It's my girls name I love but couldn't use!

It's nice, but not my favourite. And I don't think it suits our family. But thank you for the suggestion

I love Nina! I think it’s better with Lyra than Hattie, not that it matters. I think of Harriet in the same vein as Charlotte and Elizabeth. Maybe Nina Harriet?

Love Harry for a boy.

Really don’t like Eloise although it’s always very popular on here!

Another vote in Nina 🥰 it's my top choice, so nice to have the validation

Ooh never heard of Hester. I like it, but I feel like it could get confused with Esther...

It’s the Latin form of Esther. It’s my DD’s name - she’s 29 now and hasn’t really had issues with this. She loves her name and has always had compliments on it. Unusual but not daft.

3within3 · 19/12/2024 16:02

If your DH doesn’t like Stella, how about Estelle?

or Robyn? That goes well with Lyra

3within3 · 19/12/2024 16:01

I have a Nina, I love it 🥰

Instead of Lilian what about Vivienne

I do love it, but I don't like shortening of 'Viv'. May potentially use as a middle name though...

I have a Cora . If my second child had been a girl we were going to call her Lyra . May be a bit matchy for most but I loved it .
