Reon & Rosa ?

Otto223 · 08/12/2024 00:37

I’m having girl boy twins.

My partner loves Rosa, I’m not a massive fan but I can become one. I’m comprising with him as we’re struggling to agree on names. Rosa reminds me of an elderly lady and a bit dated. What do you guys think?

I love Reon for boy, and he said he’ll go with that if I go with Rosa. My other boy name is Rueben.

@Otto223 if you do go with Reuben I think it's much nicer to spell it traditionally, not 'Rueben' as in your OP.

Reuben and Rosa are nice names, if you're happy with the matching thing. Personally I'm not a fan and would give twins names to emphasise that they're individuals but it sounds like you're fine with matching initials.

I don't think Rosa is 'old lady' at all; I know several children with the name. Rose is also lovely. Totally overdone as a middle name but comparatively rare as a first name. Rosanna is also lovely.

ThewaytoAmarula · 08/12/2024 08:17

Reon sounds like Scooby Doo trying to pronounce Leon.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 08/12/2024 08:11

Sorry I think trying to do the match thing is quite tacky.
If I heard someone say Reon, I'd assume I'd misheard and ask again.

ShatParp · 08/12/2024 08:08

I've never heard Reon before but I love it OP, sounds really modern!

Teacherprebaby · 08/12/2024 08:00

Ruan is better but it's Irish so not sure it works. Rosa is absolutely lovely. As is Reuben, I would have chosen that but my partner wasn't a fan.

Snorlaxo · 08/12/2024 07:48

Rosa is a brilliant name but Reon doesn’t work so well in the UK. If you don’t live in the UK then ignore that point. As someone who lives in the UK it looks like you used speech on your phone and it autocorrected for another name like Rio, Leon, Neo etc

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 08/12/2024 07:46

Really not a fan of Reon. It sounds like the name of a gas / element. Like 'Neon'.

LynetteScavo · 08/12/2024 07:44

Rosa is lovely, elegant and strong. I don't think old lady, more Rosa Parks.

I've never met a Reon, but it does seem to go well with Rosa.

Footle · 08/12/2024 07:43

I'd think of rayon, earlier form of viscose

CurlewKate · 08/12/2024 07:39

Apologies- I misremembered. It's a GofT actor not a character.

Otto223 · 08/12/2024 07:39

@CurlewKate No idea what that is. But we haven’t choose these names after any characters

OP posts:
CurlewKate · 08/12/2024 07:36

Please don't name your child after a GofT character!

Otto223 · 08/12/2024 07:30

My partner is a twin with matchy first initials with his brother. So for us matching initials would work as he grew up with no problem matching the initial with his brother

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 08/12/2024 07:26

I'm not a fan of matchy names either. Do you like anything that doesn't begin with R?

OliviaFlaversham · 08/12/2024 07:25

I think Reon and Rosa sound like you’re naming a set of twins rather than two separate children. I like Rosa but prefer Rose. Reon I really dislike (I also dislike Leon so it isn’t just because it is a less common name).

Rosa and Reuben is fine but two children with same initial and surname/place of birth/address/date of birth can be confusing.

lolly792 · 08/12/2024 07:23

I would aim for names you're both really happy with rather than both accepting a name you're not that keen on for the sake of getting one name you've chosen.

I'm also not into matchy names so I wouldn't do the same initials

Otto223 · 08/12/2024 07:18

@somuchtodonextyear Yes the twins will be of mixed heritage so I wanted names to match both. I love Reuben but my partner says it reminds him of a sandwich. Where I’m from I know a few Reon’s, so I thought the name was sweet & would work

flyinghen · 08/12/2024 06:37

My little girl was almost a Rosa, love it. I have to say though I've never heard of Reon, it kind of sounds similar in my head to crayon. Sorry!

somuchtodonextyear · 08/12/2024 06:28

Doing a brief google search suggests Reon is a South African name? Assuming that you are indeed South African in heritage then the name is ok but I have to be honest and say that I find matchy matchy names for twins a bit chavvy and downmarket - there are some absolute horrors on some of the twin online groups and they are usually American

Zonder · 08/12/2024 06:27

Rosa is a lovely traditional name without being too common. Reon sounds like an extra e slipped into Ron. Ron or Ronald would be a nice match. Hopefully Rueben is just a typo and you meant Reuben. That would go well too.

mrspresents · 08/12/2024 06:23

I like Rosa, and don't think it's an old ladies name. I don't like Reon though sorry. Rory, Ronan, Roman, Rhys?

ThatIsNotMyNameSoWhyAreYouCallingMeThat · 08/12/2024 06:01

Is Rueben a typo, OP?

pilates · 08/12/2024 05:54

Love Rosa
Out of the two I prefer Reuben

Bobbiepin · 08/12/2024 05:50

Rosa and Reuben work beautifully together.

ProvincialLady24 · 08/12/2024 05:49

I'm not a fan of matchy names - too twee for adults.

I don't like Rein sorry - makes me think of Neon.

I prefer Rose to Rosa. I think Rose is really beautiful.

So how about Rose and Marc?
