Luka for a boy - would you always think of him from ER??

I really like this name but, having just watched my sky+ ER today, wonder if people automatically think of him from ER or not?
Also, being 'foreign' (European but from where?) does it matter that neither parent is from that country? ie, I always thought if you had an Irish name you should have some Irish in your family somewhere.
Help!! (16 days to go!!)

The Italian (and Croatian) spelling is actually Luca.
I am a strong beleiver that a baby should have links with the country from which its name originates.
And TBH everytime I meet a little Luca (and there are lots of then around here), I think "your Mum fancies that Goran bloke from ER".

My first thought was Suzanne Vega too.

I like Luke, and I like Lucas, but I'm not so keen on Luka/Luca. Not sure why really, just doesn't do it for me.

KaSo · 28/04/2008 21:15

I would think of ER if you kept the spelling as Luka which is the Eastern European spelling. Luca, the Italian spelling is much nicer anyway imo.

I know a little boy called Carter and everyone always asks his parents "like in ER?" (the answer is yes, that s where they got the idea).

I'm with Suzanne Vega on Luka, but maybe that's just my age

Luka for a boy is lovely, a freind just called her little boy Lukas instead of the normal Lucas/Luke

Pav, completely forgot about that one, eek! So it must be a woman's name too, oh heck!
FAQ, I think he's gorgeous too but am worried people will think I'm sad enough to name my child after him, which isn't why I like it! Still better than being called after some ugly bloke I suppose!

Luka is quite popular here, and Lucas and Luke. I definitely prefer Luka to the others. Don't watch ER so not an issue. Call your child a name you both really like. If it's Luka, go with that, I don't think country of origin matters, really.

southeastastra · 28/04/2008 21:07

PestoMonster · 28/04/2008 21:04

I think it's a cute name, and if you like it, have it Don't worry about tv programmes that come and go.

FAQ · 28/04/2008 21:04

I would think of ER, but then I think that oran Visnjic is gorgeous

'My name is Luka, I live on the second floor, I live upstairs from you, yes I think you've seen me before' Suzanne Vegas I think.

My friend v drunk, playing this on guitar, singing at the top of her voice, in a strong West country accent, for some reason.

Thats what I think of.
