Luka for a boy - would you always think of him from ER??

I really like this name but, having just watched my sky+ ER today, wonder if people automatically think of him from ER or not?
Also, being 'foreign' (European but from where?) does it matter that neither parent is from that country? ie, I always thought if you had an Irish name you should have some Irish in your family somewhere.

It's just Luke trying to be different isn't it? I put Luca in the same category that I put Amelie. Try-too-hard-to-be-different. But yes, the ER bloke is lush.

I would vote for Luca. It wouldn't bother me about not being italian, unless you have a really english surname. Then it may look/sound slightly odd.

But it is your child and therefore your choice.

We joked about calling DS2 Castelnuovo di Garfagnana after the small town we were staying near, but somehow it never made it to the shortlist...

My new baby is called Lucca. Loved the name Luca, but added the extra 'c' after visiting Lucca in Tuscany 2 years ago and we fell completely in love with the stunning place. So, it has a special meaning to us, and DH and I will always think of the place now.

I would go for Luke or Lucas. Not Luca unless you have italian background.

I know a Luca and he is a wee cracker, now 5 there is also a baby at the nursery called Luca who couldn't look less like a Luca if he tried bless him he should've been an angus or a hamish

We were going to call our baby Luca but decided on something else. Our next one with be Luca or Lucas though.

So Luka is a lovely name, and no, I don't think of ER. Plus once the baby's actually called something, you associate the name with the baby rather than focusing on the name.

You do know that the Luca in the Suzanne Vega song is a victim of domestic violence? I'm really not sure I'd want to give my child a name that so many people seem to link to such a sad song!

OK, I have been singing Suzanne Vega all night!! I think I prefer Luca too, rather than Luka.
Our other names so far are Finn, which was our first and we do seem to keep returning to it, and Alfie.
I love short names like Ben, Max, etc, but there seem to be loads of them so that is why I'm trying to find something shorter but a bit unusual.
Any more thoughts?

I would spell it Luca. Lovely name, very popular.

If it's your favorite then go with it. Do you have any other names shortlisted?

Just remembered as a child I had neighbours from the then Yugoslavia - father and son were called Luka

My DP's nephew is called luca. I want to burst into song everytime I hear his name, but it is a lovely name all the same!

LOVE the name but kinda think that it's definitely italian and u'll always be gettin asked if u have an italian connection.
