Hi, having twin boys and struggling with names.. we are thinking of Luca and Nico as feel they "fit" together.

Any other suggestions or opinions on these names? Thank you!

LOVE Marco. Luca & Marco sound good together.

It must be a regional thing, to be concerned about using names that don't "belong" to your heritage. I have Scottish heritage but gave my son an Irish name. No one cares.

Yes, no one cares where we live. Anything goes! I’m not surprised by any names really. People go for all sorts and it makes for an interesting mix.

Marco could also be an option.

As others have asked, are you Italian? If not, it’s so achingly middle class and pretentious. Someone had to say it. Might as well be me. 😐

I don’t agree. Both names are pretty mainstream where we live (big city). No one would bat an eye and not necessarily middle class.

I like your names!

@sweetydahling Ha! I don't think so. But you never know......

sweetydahling · 06/12/2024 04:01

Are they in the Mafia?

Dustyblue · 06/12/2024 03:43

I like your names!

I'm in Australia in a town with many Italian settlers from the 1940's. Italian names tend to be changed anyway. For example I know a family with:

Giulia = Julie
Franco = Frank
Giovanni = John
Leone (means Lion) = Leo
Remigio = Reg

You get the idea! I wouldn't worry too much about the italian side of things personally.

Congrats on your twins X

CheeseTime · 06/12/2024 03:42

Only if you’re Italian. Even then too cutesy.

caringcarer · 06/12/2024 03:06

I like both of those names. They do fit together well.

InTheWindow · 06/12/2024 00:40

I don’t dislike the names but to me there is an association with really nasty father and son gangster criminals called Luca and Nico in one of Robert Galbraith (J K Rowlings) Strike detective novels. The fifth one ‘Troubled Blood’.

theduchessofspork · 04/12/2024 23:43

I love Nico
Luca is having a massive wave of popularity at the moment though - if that bothers you.. Arturo nn Ari would go with Nico as an alternative

Snaccidental · 04/12/2024 23:32

I grew up with a pair of brothers (not Italian) called Luca and Nico so I agree it fits perfectly :D I have said those names in combination a thousand times in my life. Go for it!

Crispynoodle · 26/11/2024 23:29

Luca and Jaco

Lovely names OP. Go with your gut.

Congrats on your twins.

Potentiallyplausible · 25/11/2024 18:32

You can’t use the pair unless you’re Italian. It’s weird.

Haha posted too soon! Any alternative suggestions for Nico??

Nico is the best name! I'd keep it!

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 25/11/2024 13:54

I like both these names and agree they sound great together (and I know how hard it is to find that perfect but non-matchy combo, I've got twin boys myself!)

I know a little Luca and a Nico, neither with Italian heritage. BUT I agree with pp that together they give a strong Italian vibe which might be a bit surprising if you can't claim that heritage for them.

1AngelicFruitCake · 25/11/2024 06:38

Only like this if you're Italian.

Sorry but personally I don’t like Nico as a name - it’s too much of a nick name and I think should be short for Nicolas or Niccolo (guessing you’re Italian)?

HahaBooHiss · 24/11/2024 22:45

I love it, but I might be biased as I personally know of a set of twins with the same names! They’re lovely and flow so nicely. I also know of two brothers with the same names, but I’m not sure if they are twins or just close in age.

Other siblings I know (for an alternative to Nico)
Luca & Enzo
Luca & Marco
Luca & Ezra
Luca & Cole
Luca & Leo

(yes I know of a lot of Luca’s😅)

lottiegarbanzo · 24/11/2024 21:54

If you're not so set on Nico and not set on Italian names, how about Ivan (Ivo) or Otto? Maybe Hugo, or Felix?

If Italian is important I like Matteo.
