Not surprised Lilah made top 100, I've heard so many this past year so expect that to keep rising. Lots of spellings too: Lila, Lyla

The Lyla spelling has been in the top 100 for quite a few years already.

Can anyone point me to the full list for the 2023 data? I’m probably being a bit silly, but I can only see the top 100 data for 2023 and the full list for up to 2022. Just interested to see where my little one’s name ended up!

zombiefred · 06/12/2024 13:38

That's so strange it's not working for me I've tried my iPhone and iPad both the same, I'll try my dads computer when we go over later to see them

Mamabear256 · 06/12/2024 13:30

Ignore me - found it!

Mamabear256 · 06/12/2024 13:24

Where is everyone clicking to find the full list of names that goes up to like 5000? I can only see the top 100 everywhere i click!

Is this a me problem or just how it is?
But when I search right to the bottom of the full list of girls names it doesn't go any further down than 4056 Amaryllis with 5 babies named this. Trying to find my daughters name and it isn't there and I know of at least 1 other with her name born in 2023.

I think that is a problem with your sheet. It should go down to rank 5687 which is 3 babies registered. Maybe try to download another copy in case something went wrong during the download. This is what it looks like for me at the bottom:

They don't list names with less than 3 babies born that year. So it could be that less than 3 were given that name. I got it down to 3 so maybe an issue with your download.

They don't register if less than 3 registered in the year. My daughter wasn't born last year but the name has never appeared on the full list so it must still be a very unusual name.

Oh, I thought you meant they were all born in 2023 and it should have been part of the data. My bad.

LuckysDadsHat · 06/12/2024 08:46

MinPinSins · 06/12/2024 08:02

That seems odd. These might be stupid questions, but we're the babies 100% born in 2023, with the names spelt the exact same way and for babies of the same sex?

Just had a look and my youngests name doesn't appear anywhere on the full list so less than 3 (if any) registered. It's odd as I have met a couple of other children with that name as well now.

How did I miss this! Swear we've only just had one, maybe that was the delay or maybe I'm getting old!
Off for a good look, if Jude hasn't leapt up the charts I'll eat my hat

I thought Margot would be higher as I know several baby Margot’s!

There were 46 Renesmaes born last year which is surprising., didn’t think Twilight was still popular.

I think it will rise again in the 2024. It's still one of the highest climbers in the top 100 over the past 10 years, rising by over 600 places in that time. Whilst it was on the rise big time anyway, Margot Robbie's role of Barbie has raised the profile of the name even more. I still don't think we've seen the peak of this one's rise.

BoleynMemories13 · 05/12/2024 16:01

I'm not at all surprised that Luca is now top 10 and Jude top 20. Most of the big risers don't surprise me in the slightest. I was right about Hazel and Autumn gate crashing the top 100 too!

What the hell is going on with Nevaeh? I thought that tacky 2000s trend had died a death long ago. Why the hell are so many jumping on the "it's heaven backwards" bandwagon again?! I did not see that one coming.

Regarding Muhammad, I've just said in another thread that it's quite deceptive as, although it's clearly the most common name currently registered for boys, so many of them don't actually go by their first name as there will be more senior Muhammads in the family. So it doesn't feel like the number 1 name as it's not a name you hear so often on children. Obviously it's still very popular, but it doesn't feel like the number 1 name to me.

The next spelling of ‘Muhammad’ is in the top 30. So I would say it’s still a popular alternative, unlike the different spellings of the three you’ve suggested.

I was referring to girl list. Yeah, Muhammad is really popular, it's just that enough people choose Muhammad spelling to make it top 1. Last year, it might have been top 1 if all spellings were combined.

I'm just saying, if spellings were combined top 1 for girls would probably be something else, so girls top 3 is stagnating because these 3 are names without popular enough alternative spellings to detract new parents from using these 3.

Qwerty93 · 05/12/2024 10:11

hiddenselkie · 05/12/2024 10:02

Because they have most babies names with that specific spelling and there's no other popular alternative spelling. Ila, Amalia and Oliwia aren't as preferred as other Isla, Amelia and Olivia. I'm sure the real top 1 has multiple different spellings.

I was surprised about the top three girls being so stagnant… also shocked at Muhammad taken over top place so soon.

It's working for me! Here's the ONS analysis, the girls dataset and the boys dataset. Some surprises for the boys in the top hundred. I thought Noah would have a few more years on top before Muhammad became the most popular name. I'd called Muhammad at #1 in 2027 (for no reason other than vibes!). Also surprised to see Jax in the top hundred, and that Bodhi is still rising. I see Bodhi as a micro trend from 5 years ago. No real surprises for girls, except Nevaeh being top hundred, but the actual births really isn't that high.
