Some of the "chavvy" K-names are spelled that way because some languages don't have an initial hard C. In Polish, for example, if you want some form of Kasimir or Klara or Konrad or Krzysztof, K is the only option.

Probably a bit out there, but one of my favourites that hasn't been mentioned is Kielo (KEY-eh-low), a Finnish girls' name meaning lily of the valley.

Or how about Kermit? 🐸

lochmaree · 14/11/2024 20:22

Kaye / Kay

UnderZealous · 14/11/2024 18:31

I agree. Ciara has a charm that Keira doesn't but Cay is awful. My thoughts on Kay are probably influenced by knowing a nice, intelligent, pretty, youngish one.

Cathy looks better than Kathy, but Kate looks better than Cate.

Agreed. That's why I chose the word 'generally' and not 'always'

Kieran

Dea53 · 14/11/2024 17:13

Kiera / Keira / Kira would have been my choice if I’d had a girl

A lot are interchangeable in this day and age. Besides some names we think of as C names are traditionally K names. I think Katharine is one.

Maybe traditional was the wrong word then but, in my opinion, where there's an option to spell with a C or a K. It generally always looks more classic (and classy) with a C

Lots of suggestions on this thread, my only thoughts would be to choose a name that does actually start with a 'K', not a traditional 'C' name that you just change the spelling of which can come off as a bit chavvy (Kourtney, Khloe, Kris..... I'm thinking of you).

A lot of K names look quite chavvy! 😩

Kris is fine in some languages. Isn't Khloe nearer to the original Greek spelling?
