Name sense check

I'm having another girl this coming January and we're fairly set on a name, just want to sense check it as it always feels like such a big choice!

Her elder sister is called Georgina (Georgie) and we're fairly sure on the name Jessica but wondered if it's a bit dated (given popularity in the 90's/ 00's) or whether it's considered a classic and would work okay! Middle name will be Bridget.

Thanks!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It’s dated for me. I’d class it with Chloe and Kyle — those kinds of 90s names.

I consider Jessica to be a very common but not a classic name, unlike many other Shakespearean names.IMO it is a name like Tracey, Debbie, Donna, etc.

Interesting! I wouldn't have put them in the same bracket at all 😂

It's a classic, timeless name. I know two Jessicas under ten. It goes nicely with Georgina too.

DramaAlpaca · 11/11/2024 12:01

Jessica is lovely, a Shakespearean classic. I love Georgina too.

I love the name Jessica. I knew Jessica’s in school and uni and they were always gorgeous and outgoing and fun. Definitely a ‘cool’ name to me!

@toastofthetown thanks! Good to get a range of views 🙂

I find Jessica pretty dated to be honest. It was a top three name back in the 90s and while it’s still in the top 100 now, the top 100 names are much less popular than they were in the 1990s so there are far fewer little Jessicas today than thirty years ago. Anecdotally I went to school with so many Jessicas and I don’t know know anyone who is calling their children Jessica and so it feels dull and dated to me. Classic names also date. Susan is a classic name but still dated. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it, or it’s a bad name (and I consider names dating is that it’s not bad thing, just a thing) but I would consider it dated.

It's a lovely name.
Love Georgina, too.

shoopshoopdedoo · 11/11/2024 11:45

It’s lovely - I think more popular a few decades ago but, to me, it seems classic enough to not feel dated or tied to a a certain era

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 11/11/2024 11:11

Both gorgeous names that are fantastic for kids and work for adults as well.
Not dated at all just gorgeous

Two beautiful names! Also Georgie and Jessie sound lovely as Nick names together x

Lovely name,I don't think it's dated. Holy grail of names IMO - well known, one spelling, nice shortenings, likely to be the only one in her class (never a guarantee of course).

Thank you - that's what we thought too x

Lovely name, don’t see it as dated.

OnNaturesCourse · 11/11/2024 10:47

Lovely name.

Georgie and Jessica, or Georgie and Jessie (which I adore)

JustAGirlMum3 · 11/11/2024 10:20

I know of a little girl called Jessica (2 years old) and I have never thought it was dated, just a standard name
