Name sense check

ThelastRolo20 · 11/11/2024 10:19

I'm having another girl this coming January and we're fairly set on a name, just want to sense check it as it always feels like such a big choice!

Her elder sister is called Georgina (Georgie) and we're fairly sure on the name Jessica but wondered if it's a bit dated (given popularity in the 90's/ 00's) or whether it's considered a classic and would work okay! Middle name will be Bridget.

Thanks!

great name - nice that there won't be lots of them - very similar vibe to the names we considered....

It’s dated for me. I’d class it with Chloe and Kyle — those kinds of 90s names.

Edited

I don't as thinking of the name Chloe too. Both Jessica and Chloe are lovely names but they are were too popular in the 90s for me.

I think it’s a great name and love the shortening Jess. To me, it’s classic and timeless yet also sounds refreshing on a wee newborn today. You should definitely go for it if you love it!

@ThelastRolo20 , Porgy doesn't rhyme with Georgie

Knew it reminded me of something. Now I wonder if it’s a troll post…?

Not a troll post and knew nothing about this 😂 I'm not convinced enough people will know about this to be an issue?

Maybe I'll stick with Jessie rather than Jess in case.

Porgy and Bess?

Thanks everyone - I like the fact there aren't loads of girls called Jessica at the moment, and it seems it's "classic" enough to still be used! I'll probably use Jess as the shortened version so they'll be Georgie and Jess ❤️

Georgie and Jess sound beautiful together 😁

Of course it is, it's a shakespearean name. I'd put it in the same category as Imogen.

Fireworknight · 11/11/2024 20:38

The two names go well together.

i don’t think it as dated, but more ‘I haven’t heard of any young Jessica’s recently’.

Your daughters names will sound lovely together

KirstenBlest · 11/11/2024 18:56

It's fine, but it was popular about 30 years ago. I like it.

MinPinSins · 11/11/2024 18:44

There were 10 times more babies being called Jessica in the mid 90s than now - in that sense, it's definitely dated.

It doesn't stop it being a nice name, but it's definitely associated with a particular age group - so is dated.

DinnaeFashYersel · 11/11/2024 16:50

Jessica is a beautiful and classic name that has stood the test of time.

Scutterbug · 11/11/2024 16:47

Lovely name. Definitely not similar to Tracey etc!

Firsttimebabymummy · 11/11/2024 16:29

Really lovely.

Moreteaandchocolate · 11/11/2024 15:34

Lovely name! I’d call it a modern classic rather than dated - I think it’s one of those names that may have peaked in the 00’s but will stay popular at a lower level long term 😊

ThelastRolo20 · 11/11/2024 13:54

Thank you! X

I associate it with Shakespeare and see it as classic. It was very popular at one stage but I haven't seen a little one for ages. It goes very well with your daughter's name.

TheBirdintheCave · 11/11/2024 13:18

It's a solid name and I wouldn't say it was dated. It's 69th in the charts at the moment.

I personally wouldn't choose it as a sister for a Georgina (as I'm not a fan of siblings having the same sound at the start of their names) but if you don't mind that they sound a little similar then I see no other problems with it :)

ThelastRolo20 · 11/11/2024 12:49

A range of views! But predominantly it seems well liked and goes well with Georgie so I'm feeling pretty happy 🙂
