DH’s family are Welsh, mine are Scottish (although I was brought up in SE England). Our son is Elis (Welsh) and so I’m looking at Scottish names for baby boy number 2. Please share with me your favourites ☺️

The above were considered when we were naming DS . The last 2 were in the list because we're also Formula One fans too.

DN is at primary school in Scotland. The boys all seem to be named after islands apart from several Ruaraidhs variously spelled, Brodie and Torin. Some lovely names but not much variety. I like Innes, Euan and Torin.

I know a Ruairi and his mum is Irish. I think it’s a great name.

Newbeginningsandhappy · 02/11/2024 17:06

I think Ruairi is fine.

I adore Sholto but DH vetoed it immediately.

I am Irish but I prefer the name Rory to either the Irish or Gaelic originals!

DaisyEM · 02/11/2024 14:25

What does everyone think of the name/spelling Ruairi? I know traditionally it’s ‘Ruairidh’, but my name ends in dh and I’d prefer to not match names, as obviously a ‘dh’ on the end is quite unusual and people will probably notice both my name and DS2’s name ends with it!

I like Finlay. I believe Finlay is the masculine spelling & Finley is unisex.
