Names like Matilda / Zara / Madeleine?

PocketRocket12 · 31/10/2024 19:17

Help! Baby girl due in three weeks and still no baby names for her.

Zara, Matilda and Madeleine are at the top of my list but have all been vitoed by DH for different reasons.

He likes Orla and Erin but we’ve not settled on anything.

I suppose we like names that aren’t too fussy (although that’s a matter of opinion), not too “out there” and relatively easy to say / spell.

Our surname begins with a “T” and we already have a DS named Zachary.

What names might we like?

My order would be:

  1. Eliza
  2. Maeve
  3. Hazel
  4. Lila

Zara is lovely but too close to Zachary in my opinion, nice for them to have different initials. Eliza feels very similar to Zara I love both but further removed from Zachary.

I think Verity Jane is lovely - it’s nice it’s your friends name too

If not then Eliza Jane - which is pretty - but she will probably end up yet another Ellie, so depends if that bothers you.

I don’t like the others (although admittedly my friends step mum was Hazel, which she said (or rather shrieked) AY-ZOWL.

Others might be

Marianne

Estella

Lois

Vivienne

Vivia

Miranda

Your comments have been so helpful! Currently top on our very long list:

Hazel
Eliza
Maeve (Maeva?)
Lila

Still fighting for Zara but may lose that battle!

Middle name will be Jane. Appreciate it’s not often used so probably won’t matter.

Any votes on these will be fantastic. I promise to be back when she is born to confirm what we called her 🤣

i love your shortlist! My order would be

  1. Eliza
  2. Hazel
  3. Lila
  4. Maeve / Maeva
But I like them all!

Matilda and Madeleine were 2nd and 3rd on my list. I went with Eliza for dd so we have similar taste!

Ooohh that’s so funny! I’m sure she suits her name perfectly, are you pleased you chose it?

Eliza Jane is divine 😍

Hazel is lovely too. I like Lila, but it does blend in with lots of other current trend names. I definitely think Eliza or Hazel fit better with Zachary.

Maeve Jane is too blunt, plus I don't get the Maeve attraction (I once saw someone ask how to pronounce it and someone else replied "it's like Dave with an M"... that was enough to put me off for life! 😂 Maeva is just a fancy Maeve.

Eliza Jane for the win 👍🏻

Dave with an M!!!!! I am crying at that 🤣 Agree with your point re Lila. Eliza may end up “Liza” as she grows anyway (appreciate that sometimes nicknames happen whether you want them or not!) which has similar feel to Lila but with stronger full name to back it up.

Tallulah and Madison are a totally different sort of name to Matilda, Zara and Madeleine (and Zachary). Which is absolutely fine and I am a firm believer that you should pick the name you like - but they are not the same sort of style / camp at all.

Very fair comment! Eliza seems to fall within that bracket and I love how it flows with Zachary x
