Robin for a boy

I’m 15 weeks with my first baby, I’m finding out next week whether it’s a boy or a girl but I’ve got slightly overexcited and I’ve already got a long list of names for both!

My top contender for a boy is Robin, I love that it’s classic but quite under-used. I don’t know whether people would tend to assume that Robin is a girl though? DH isn’t hugely keen but it does turn out we are having a boy I’m hoping to wear him down 😅.

Other boy names I like are Cedric and Jasper, basically anything that gets accused of being “wet” sounding on here.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome!

Oh I love it!

Cedric is stunning. Please go for that.

I don't like Robin - too feminine.

Jasper is nice.

My brother is called Robin - it's a great name.
My friend also has a little girl called Robyn.

I think Robin with an I is definitely still more for boys in the UK. I quite like it.

CrispyCrumpets · 01/11/2024 22:25

Robin is a lovely name!

Copperoliverbear · 01/11/2024 22:34

I like it for both. X

I know two adult Robins and they both go by Rob and hate people finding out that they're actually Robin.

Itwasntme25 · 01/11/2024 22:37

Love Robyn for a girl but don't like Robin for a boy.

Joiedepotato · 01/11/2024 22:39

My dad is Robin and he is the most wonderful kind man so I'm all for it!

Blondiie · 01/11/2024 22:45

I like it but don’t use it if having a name that is “underused” is important. I know 2 under 6 months after decades of never having met one born later than the 1960s.

SomethingDifferentBloomed · 03/11/2024 16:36

Thanks for all the feedback, it seems like the majority are in favour!

Perhaps “underused” is the wrong word but I want something that still feels fresh, but maybe that depends on where abouts in the country you are.

Anyway we had a scan yesterday that’s confirmed it’s a boy so now I just need to get my husband on board 😂

Robin also sounds wet to me.

Yeah, like I said, I like softer sounding names that do get accused of being wet on here. Different strokes and all…
