Polly or Zara?

Just found out baby no3 is a girl. Already have two boys with traditional names. We are between two names Polly and Zara. Which do you prefer? Middle name will be Jean after family member

Cyra is awful. Saira is nice. Polly Jean isn't great - Polygene - Wikipedia

I much prefer Zara. Polly sounds to cutesy to me, and I know a dog with that name, which is most likely what puts me off it. I also think Polly Jean sounds like you're trying to to call her Billy Jean. I think Zara is a lot more timeless, classic, and professional.

Cyra is nice too OP

Thanks for the replies. I think we are leaning towards Zara more we are just worried it's too similar to Sarah ( DH used to date someone with that name a long time ago) but only just thought they may sound too similar

They sound completely different!

ChocolateGanache · 28/10/2024 14:22

Zara
Or maybe Tilda ?

FASDE1517 · 28/10/2024 13:46

I love both but I wouldn't want the middle name to be an item of clothing if the first name is a clothes shop.

PiggieWig · 28/10/2024 13:32

Zara Jean is a great name

Ooh, I love both.

Polly should be cutesy, and I absolutely hate cutesy names, but I don't find it so. I just love it - but not with Jean, it doesn't sound quite right.

Zara is gorgeous, lovely name. A big Yes to Zara Jean, though Zara Jane would be even better.

Anyone suggesting the super-twee Poppy needs their bumps feeling. Horrid name.

PreppySquid · 28/10/2024 02:12

Zara is a lovely name!
"Princess; Shining, bright, radiance; Flower, blossom. Give baby a name to help them shine! Zara is a baby girls name with origins in Arabic, Persian, and Hebrew."

It has a amazing meaning as well! Good luck mumma!🤗Flowers💖

Zara

Scorpion84 · 27/10/2024 06:43

Zara .

polly is cute for a baby but not a great name for an adult imo

Polly. Can’t stand Zara.

Same. Zara just sounds too....blunt to me. Sharp and blunt.

Polly sounds lovely.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 24/10/2024 23:41

I always think of which one id rather be called and that would be Zara out of the two.

I always think that too and for me it’s Polly!

salamithumbs · 24/10/2024 22:47

Zara!

Borris · 24/10/2024 22:12

Definitely Zara, polly is not for me

ThatWhiteElephant · 24/10/2024 21:56

Love Zara, do not like Polly.

bearfood · 24/10/2024 21:43

I have a 16 year old Polly and I did worry it wouldn't suit a teen when she was tiny, but it's actually really does and she's never met another.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/10/2024 21:40

Zara is pretty and I think would be an easy name to live with, so would be my choice of the two. I can’t help but feel you’d need to be really cool to pull off Polly - as it’s so linked to childish things (Polly Pocket, the Parrot, Miss Polly had a Dolly). It would be great on the right girl though!

OopsieeDaisy · 24/10/2024 21:34

Much prefer Zara, it’s much cooler than Polly and works well for all ages.

helibirdcomp · 24/10/2024 20:27

Nooo neither - Polly is a parrot and Zara sells women's clothes. Liked the idea of Poppy as an alternative.

FayCarew · 24/10/2024 19:53

I don't find Polly cutesy at all. I think it sounds quite no-nonsense.

Nicebloomers · 24/10/2024 19:43

Polly is too cutesy for me and Zara too fashion shop. Penelope nn penny? Or what about Sarah?
