Thoughts about these girls names?

My partner and I are expecting a baby girl, sister to Leo. He's Italian, I'm from another Mediterranean country, and we live in London, so we want an international name that goes well with his Italian surname. Not too long and no middle names.

Shortlist includes Sofia, Elisa, Nina, Giorgia, Zoe, Vera, Martina, Ana. Thoughts?

And what else might we like? We can't use Mia/Mila, Sara/Zara, Emilia, Ella, Nora, Luna.

Thanks!

Nina 100%

Vera and Sofia are gorgeous.

Hi! Here's my opinions:
Sofia - love this, I do prefer the 'ph' spelling, something to consider?
Elisa - I like this, I believe it's more commonly spelt Alyssa. Elsie and Elise and also similar
Nina - one of my closest friends has this name and I've always adored it
Giorgia - I really like this, you could also consider the spelling Jorja
Zoe - absolutely love Zoe
Vera - I've only started hearing this name very recently, not my favourite but nice nonetheless
Martina - feels very classic and sweet to me
Ana - I love the sound of this name, so lovely

I like Nina best. If you live in the UK and will be an English speaking family, can I suggest Anna and Georgia rather than the spellings you suggest. Simple to make her life that little bit easier.

sel2223 · 28/10/2024 18:15

Leo & Sofia are my top boy and girl choices ❤️

NeckolasCage · 28/10/2024 13:52

Just Anna.

Thanks so much! We've been playing around with all the ideas over the last days and our long list has increased quite a bit, but we keep coming back to Sofia, Nina, and Elisa as the top 3 across mine and my partner's favourites.

Due date is not for a couple of months though, so still plenty of time to change our minds 😅

I like Elisa best of these 3, the others are nice too but Elisa is a bit more unusual- but not difficult for English speakers to say or spell

I like Nina too, OP.

greengreyblue · 20/10/2024 21:28

Please remember that your son's name stands alone and has nothing to do with your daughter's name .

beachbum85 · 20/10/2024 21:10

Thanks again! Really appreciate all the feedback and suggestions, and also relieved not to get comments saying they're all terrible 😅

I've added Julia, Chiara, Elena and Gaia to the list. I think Marcella is lovely but maybe too long with Leo? And my partner doesn't like Marcie as a nn. He has already vetoed Carla, Aria, Stella and some others, and I don't like the 'uwh' sound in the Italian pronunciation of names like Paola and Claudia.

We can't use Isabella, Maria, Lucia, Rosa. Valentina, Francesca, Annabella, Angelina are lovely but too long for us/the surname. Gina, Gianna, Giovanna seem a bit dated to me, Andrea is a male name in Italy, and Lana means 'wool' although that's not necessarily a problem, I guess?

I totally get the comments that Sofia is overused but, funnily enough, I only know one and she's my age living in Italy. In our circle, the overused names seem to be Sara, Mia, Alessia, Bianca 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was our same doubt with Leo, and we know a young Leon, Leonardo, and several Theos but no Leo as yet.
