Half Greek baby boy due soon. Will likely grow up in London. Struggling for names!!

Nickname would be Dio (to rhyme with Leo).

Apollo

We met an Apollo at soft play! I like it. Coming at this from a position that all 3 of my boys have very Scottish names- two which my English friends struggled with at first- but it's our background & culture & relevant to us, just like it is to you. Go for it. I like Dio.

I work in a big secondary school & we have names from all cultures, some of which I've never heard of before: it's great, it's part of our multi-cultural society.

Thanks! No, not looking for classical names in particular. I would just prefer to use, for example, Nikolaos / Alexandros rather than Nicholas / Alexander, if that makes sense?

I’m not going to share my daughters’ names because they are quite unusual and identifying, but they don’t seem to have caused too much of an issue! It seems it’s almost easier to use a more “out there” name for a girl, for some reason.

I don’t think I am struggling to spell it? There are different variants. I’d pick one and presume people would learn. Maybe I’m being too optimistic.

I don't think you are being too optimistic. Your baby is from a Greek family and will have a Greek name. Dio is a very easy nickname (even if autocorrect tried to turn it to did). It's a legit name, and especially in a large multicultural city, it won't be a problem. A lot of people on Mumsnet like to think all babies should be named Thomas and Charlotte, but the important people will learn to say and spell the name you've chosen.

I'm not sure tbh, it seems bit bombastic to me. Are Greek boys routinely given this as a name?

Dionysius isn't a name id pick. The mythology of the greek god is a bit mad.

No, it doesn’t have to be mythological at all! And I’m very much hoping to pick a nice name. Clearly failing!

I love Konstantinos but it’s bad with our surname. Will try and warm up to Dimitrios and Nikolaos (always makes me think of knicker-less in English, so that puts me off).

I think it sounds like an illness, a breed of dinosaur or you've spelt Dionysus wrong. I prefer pretty much all the other suggestions on the thread or more common alternatives such as Demitri and Niko

It doesn't have to be all or nothing though. There's lots of greek names that are not as out there.
