Trying to decide between Hugo or Louis/Louie for third baby. Already have a Theodore and Noah.

Louie seems to have become the more popular spelling in the UK

Louis is often mispronounced Lou-is

Hmm. Louie looks feminine and babyish. Given that the Waleses youngest child is Louis, people would probably be familiar with the name.

I voted Louis only to try to avoid the curse of being called Hugo. I don't like Louis either but at least it's a king's name.

Our friends have a Hugo and its so cute! It travels better too

RuthW · 12/10/2024 22:47

Hugo

FayCarew · 12/10/2024 19:13

That just looks like you don't know how to spell Louis. This.

BoleynMemories13 · 12/10/2024 13:23

Louis, and definitely this spelling! The ie cheapens it somewhat.

If you shorten to Theo, I feel Theo and Hugo may be a bit samey as they both ending in o. I much prefer Louis to Hugo anyway.

Hugo

My grandson is Louie so i am biased

Me too.
Personally being a bit of a traditionalist I would have probably gone with the Louis spelling. But regardless of spelling I always really liked the name and having tried it out for nearly two years with my adorable Grandson I love it.

I like Louie

That just looks like you don't know how to spell Louis.

Neither are a particular fave but of the two I’d pick Louis (I do understand why people choose the phonetic Louie - but I’m afraid to me it just looks like they don’t know how it’s supposed to be spelt 🫣).

While I do love traditional Hugh, I’m not quite as sure about trendier Hugo - plus I’m guessing Theodore might get Theo when older and each of the boys names having a different ending sound is nice imo.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 11/10/2024 19:50

Love them both, can’t choose

sadeightiesthrowback · 11/10/2024 19:11

Honestly, I don't like either name very much, but I voted for Hugo because I thought it sounded a good match with Theodore and Noah.

mathanxiety · 11/10/2024 19:03

Louis, pronounced Louee, which is the correct way.

Viavita · 11/10/2024 18:33

Louis - do you mean pronounced Louie ? Don't like Lewis pronunciation.
I prefer Louis to Hugo.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/10/2024 18:30

I like them both; I slightly prefer Louis.
( not keen on the Louie spelling )

shoopshoopdedoo · 11/10/2024 18:19

Hugo, because I irrationally don’t like Louis

SkaneTos · 11/10/2024 17:16
