Need to register baby this week - help!

I need to register baby girl this week and am really struggling. baby has two siblings who both have o-ending names (just because we happened to really like them). Firstly, what would you think if 3 siblings all had o-ending names? I lean towards thinking that's a bad idea (it makes me feel like I'm treating them like dolls or something!) but we really just like the names!

Secondly, what would you expect of a little one with the following names? What are your associations?

  • Céleste
  • Flora
  • Juno
  • Clio

Thank you

The names are all lovely. I can see your dilemma.

I think I'd use an O ending name, not just because both Juno and Cleo (I'd spell it that way) are fabulous names, but so that daughter number three wouldn't feel she'd been excluded from the older sisters' club. These things can be important when there are three girls.

I love Flora, and I think Celeste is a name that's becoming more popular. I prefer Celestine though.

If you decide not to use an O name, I hope you pick Flora. If you end up choosing between Cleo and Juno, I'd choose Cleo. if you really want the Clio spelling, I'd pick Juno.

I like them all except Clio. Babar the elephant was married to Celeste and had a daughter called Flora. Both lovely names.

DuchessOfSausage · 07/10/2024 19:59

In order:
Flora - lovely
Clio - greek muse
...
Juno - a lot to live up to
Céleste - don't like it

Congratulations!
I think something like Arlo, Hugo and Clio/Juno is OK but a bit matchy. You obviously like -o names, so go with the one you like best.
Which goes best with the surname?

Skybluepinky · 07/10/2024 18:25

Flora, very negative connotations for the rest although Cleo would be ok.

EachandEveryone · 07/10/2024 17:48

Flora is margarine I don’t get how people aren’t making that association and just jumping to the car one.

cecilia is nice cece for short
Regina
Cora

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 07/10/2024 17:40

Celeste and Flora are a bit "overheard in Waitrose" but nice names.

Juno is a pregnant teenager.

Clio is a car.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 07/10/2024 17:36

I used to teach an adorable little girl called Flora 🌺so Flora is my favourite.

Nillynally · 07/10/2024 17:34

Flora 🌷

BootballJoy · 07/10/2024 17:32

Flora is far and away my favourite

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/10/2024 17:12

Needmorelego · 07/10/2024 12:03

Flora is my favourite 🌸
(and I don't have any expectations of what a little Flora would be..... she'd be who she is)

Edited

This!

Celeste is delightful. Este(e) is an pretty and chic shortening too.

ANightingaleSang · 07/10/2024 16:17

Just to say, the Flora I know went to school in France and the name worked well if that's something that interests you 🙂

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/10/2024 15:43

I think they’re all lovely. I’d pick Juno probably if not flora. Celeste as association with Daphne and Celeste and possibly a contraceptive pill? But I don’t think most people will associate. Clio has car association but I like it. I love names ending in O but it’s maybe a bit matchy to have 3. I’d pick flora for you I think.

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/10/2024 13:55

I don't like Juno.
I quite like Cleo and Flora without loving them.
Celeste isn't necessarily my taste but of your names it would be my choice I think of Celeste Holm . I agree about leaving off the accent.

SukiSoozie · 07/10/2024 13:33

Thanks so much for all the comments so far. They're pretty consistent, which is interesting and helpful. I'm surprised by the fairly unanimous preference for Cleo- the greek link is what I was thinking about, though the potential lengthening to Clitoris had occurred to me too.

I too am a bit worried about Céleste sounding pretentious and fussy. We are part French, though that's not immediately obvious so I was hoping to pick a name with a bit of a French link..

Clio is one of the Greek muses. Lovely name. I also like Juno and Flora. Least lovely is Celeste. Feels a little old fashioned to me.

Jessieshome · 07/10/2024 13:02

Céleste - school bully

Flora - Margerine. Or I imagine some absent minded new age hippie dancing in the meadows type (not necessarily a bad thing!)

Juno - I really like this name, I like the sound, it's unusual but familiar.

Clio - Clitoris. I'd spell it Cleo if you really want this name.

shoopshoopdedoo · 07/10/2024 12:45

I like Flora
Also like Cleo, but not Clio (car)

Not keen on Juno - it’s too trendy
Celeste I personally find a bit fussy but it’s OK

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/10/2024 12:41

Celeste sounds a little pretentious unless you have French heritage (to me)

Flora is lovely ☺️

Juno sounds quite trendy middle class (again, to me)

Clio - I like the spelling Cleo better - quite nice and a bit unusual without being too “out there”

TianasBayou · 07/10/2024 12:36

Flora is my favourite and I offer Chloe as an alternative to Cleo.

SallyWD · 07/10/2024 12:25

And I like Flora

SallyWD · 07/10/2024 12:24

Honestly, I'd make no associations about the child. I think we're more likely to judge the parents than the child when we hear a name!
Those names are all fine. I like Celeste. Clio should definitely be Cleo. I'm not mad on Juno but I know it's popular here.

BodyKeepingScore · 07/10/2024 12:22

Flora is about the only one on this list I'd even consider.

Clio is a car.

Celeste is a bit cringe IMO

And Juno makes me think of Ellen Page in the movie where she got pregnant in her teens.

OctopusFriend · 07/10/2024 12:22

Not Juno or Clio.
Celeste is very pretty. Don't make their life difficult by having an accent on any letter, though.

LittleGreenDuck · 07/10/2024 12:21

I also thought of the car for Clio.

I actually really like Juno and my DD also has a lovely, caring friend with a fabulous sense of humour called Flora (wonder if it's the same one?!) so that has positive connotations to me.

Celeste is ok, I wouldn't pick it, but it's inoffensive.
